To make this a gun control debate is inappropriate. It is extremely rare that there is any threat of gun violence to the Australian public, in fact this is the first incident that I can recall. Gun control in Australia has been overwhelmingly successful in reducing gun violence. This is obviously a situation where it has not worked. No good thing comes without compromise.
Conversely, the American gun allow concealed carry and castle doctrine, though not in every state IIRC (I will admit that my knowledge of American gun legislation is incomplete). This has its benefits in allowing citizens to defend themselves or their homes with force when in immediate danger. This is a good thing. However, because of the higher rates of gun ownership, it inherently leads to more circumstances where guns are required, and more circumstances where guns are used when they did not need to be. This is the compromise in America.
I'm not touting one over the other, but both countries have a system that works for them. Both countries also deal with problems that arise from their respective laws, as is the case with any legislation on any matter. Nothing is perfect. I do not think that America should introduce gun control because the firearm culture is far too deeply ingrained for it to work. I also don't think that Australia should revoke gun control laws because, by and large, the legislation that was created by the Howard government has been successful. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

It's not like the movies, they are held in a building with the guy, they can't come up with some organized plan and if someone makes a move on their own they'll probably just get shot, I guess it could work if one person sacrifices themselves and everyone happens to be inspired by it at the same time.

You realize you can kill people with a rock right? I understand, Since none of you can own guns, You have to keep telling yourself that youll be alright and safe because you have no choice in the matter. Keep depending on police with guns to keep you safe. Its sad that your government has brainwashed you into thinking guns are evil and bad. Its just a piece of metal.
I like the tuna here.

as you can figure out , you my friends FIND your own blood to be more worth than someone elses.
this is not an attack on a country but an attack on your VALUES.
STOP WITH SELECTING and that old WHTIE PRIVILIGESS . it aint working anymore.

Australia has fairly high education standards as well as methods for ensuring that students attend school. Secondly immigration standards aim to preclude poorly educated or unskilled migrants, or those with mental health or personality issues .
If the perpetrator was born here he would have been exposed to the Australian education system, if he immigrated he equally would have needed to meet immigration standards to live here. He is not a foreign citizen as he has been described as 'known to police'.
In either case the argument that a 'lack of education' is to blame is fairly weak, barring circumstances other than I have outlined. Real talk this is more likely a case of religious indoctrination than the shortfalls in the education system.
