How do you eat that much protien?

As far as I know, protien is the most important thing to building muscle. I am currently 185 lbs, and 5'7. If what most bodybuilders say is true, I showed be consuming at least double my body weight in grams of protien a day to gain muscle mass consistantly.

What I would like to know is, how do you guys do this?

I am looking at 370 to 400 grams a day for a goal.

I've been eating tuna, chicken, and whey protien shakes (1% milk) as much as I can.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

2gms per day is quite a bit, im sure you could scale it back to 1.5gms/day

You should onlt be taking in about 1-1.5 grams of protein per lb of body weight. If you eat 6 times a day you would be suprised how easily you can take in that much protein.

You don't need more than 1.5 per pound, max, regardless of what you read or are told. Your body can only assimilate around 30 grams per hour. Shoot for 40 grams per meal and make sure you're eating at least that many carbs per meal, except for right before bed. It adds up pretty quick.

I guess I should state the goals here. As I mentioned, I am about 185 now, and 5'7.

I would like to get up to 215, then cut down to 200 or 205. Not really worried too much of what I am eating except the protien.

If you want to gain muscle, you have to eat carbs and fat, so you should worry about them as much, if not more, than protein. The reasons are endless, but they include upped testosterone levels, restored glycogen stores, and reduced fatigue.

I definitely don't think 375-400 grams a protein a day are need to meet your goals man. 300ish max would probably be all you need.

2 grams/ lb of bodyweight is for our pharmacologically enhanced friends. Your body cannot assimilate any more than 1-1.2 grams/lb bodyweight

    Plan your meals, man.

Try to get most protein out of real, clean food (don't forget complex carbs and fat!).

Fill up the gaps with a good whey protein shake.

    Thanks guys

as for my body fat, I don't really know. I have gained some fat around my stomach in the past couple of years. Mostly from drinkin beer and not doing any type of cardio. But, I started expirimenting with supplements the past couple of months. I don't believe in taking steriods, so I have tried creatine, glutamine, and just started "Gakic"

I am still staying away from cardio for now. I want to achieve my body weight goal first. Just to mention, I am 27 years old. As I have gotten older, I have noticed a drastic change in metabolism. This is great, for gaining the weight at least. But I am not looking forward to the cutting from 215.

The creatine has helped with pushing it in the gym longer, and going harder. Not the same results I experienced when I was younger. I remember putting on thirty pounds in one summer, by just eating and taking creatine. I have not gained any weight this time. But, the gakic has helped in the gym too. As far as being able to do another set. It has not been a wonderpill, but I do notice the endurance differance.

As far as the protien, just about every bodybuilder I have ever talked to has told me to double the grams. I also read, it is a myth that the body can only use thirty grams of protien in a sitting (hour.) I read it in a Men's Health article that came as a bonus with my last subscription. I will look around to see where they got the data.

2 grams per pound is for freakish juicers who live and die by old school stuff. I've been doing this for years, I'm totally natural, and I see great gains ay about 1.5 grams per pound. But, you can do whatever you want. If you want to spend money on that much protein, go for it. Just make sure you're drinking enough water to keep your kidneys and liver from getting "pissed" off at you. Good luck

When I was in the best shape I've been in (last year) and counting all my calories, I was taking in 0.8 - 1.0 grams of protein per body pound and making really good gains.

2 grams of protein per body pound is a nutritional fallacy. You can do well with 1.5 and below. In fact I'd recommend .8 - 1.5 and I bet you still make good gains, especially if you dedicate some of the extra calories from the protein drop towards good solid carbs that will give you more energy for lifting, school, everything else.

1.5g is perfect, or in your case 277.5-280grams. Spread through 6 meals (1 every 3 hours) that's 46g per meal. Below 50g x 6 meals is not THAT hard to do. Above that range I think you need to be eating very well so that you can digest those meals and eat every 2-2.5 hours.

That's where I have problems. I can get to 205lbs, but then I bog down on the eating.

Some say that if you don't use up your carbs right away for energy they eventually get stored as fat. There's still some discussion going because there are those who affirm that it does not matter when you eat your carbs, is your total caloric intake in the day what matters.

I wouldn't eat a ton of carbs before bed, but I'd definitely get some (fat is good also since it slows down the absorption of protein during the night).

1g per pound for me is costly. Certain days i can only get just over 100g, i know it will hinder my progress somewhat at this level, but will i still make at least SOME progress?

If you like eating 2 grams per pound, go for it.

I think 1 gram per pound is plenty for natural lifters.

I like eating protein foods but even 1.5 grams per pound is to much for my tastes.

you should check Alan Aragon's thread. the guy knows his stuff and has a BS and Masters in Nutrition. i've checked lab studies and research papers on protein needs for weight resistance trainers and i've come to similar conclusions.
