    TSA handle grip plates? Opinions?

I'm putting together a home gym and have been looking for some matching Olympic plates. I found 315 lbs. worth of these TSA handle grip plates (that's all weight plates, not a bar) in very nice condition for $189 (about 60 cents per pound). I know they aren't sexy top of the line plates, but are there any real problems with them? Any opinions?

You're missing important information here: plate denominations. 315lbs of 5s isn't very useful. I think some here like the TSA grip plates but personally I do not like them at all. I feel like the grip section is weak. If I were buying cheap plates like that used, I wouldn't spend more than .50/lb.

    Where are you located?

Would rather have an extra couple pairs of tens personally, eventually you will want several pairs of 45s. How long have you been looking? If you really need them, get them. However it's not a GREAT price, and I as I said, I do not like that set personally. For cheap plates I prefer non grip style myself.

Used non fancy plates = 50 cents a pound or less, I'd offer them less

The first set of 35s is a bit of a waste, the second set is a complete waste.

Most cheap plates from places like Sports Authority and Dicks appear to have a lot of impurities in the metal--it almost feels like some sort of pressboard or something along that line. I don't honestly know exactly how they are made. That said, the grip handles tend to be a weak point. This becomes an issue for deadlifts, BB Rows, and other movements where you tend to set the weights down roughly. Cheap plates have been known to crack easily. That's on top of the usual inaccuracy of the face value of the weight and the sharp edges in the center holes which can really booger up the finish on a bar.
