Same here. Do a traditional bb split. Diet is more of an IIFYM model than anything else.

Do you use IIFYM in contest prep?

IIFYM? I've never used that system. I just googled it. Found their site and it spit this out when I used their calculator...

    54.9 27.9 9.8 7 - 9 419 Grams per meal

I believe life at 40 and later in the gym is a little different than it was when we were younger. Our bodies don't respond the same way as they used to. Mine doesn't anyway. I'm just looking for people who might have opinion on that.

I'll be 38 next month, and totally feel my age. I started feeling it about a year and a half ago. Recovery is my main issue. It can take me a week to recover from a leg workout! Pre 35, I rarely got sore no matter how hard I worked in the gym.
I have noticed a difference since starting a new multivitamin that is food based with herbal combinations. But yes, getting older and have all kinds of problems popping up...it sucks!

I was thinking the same thing.

Compared to my teens, 20's and 30's, I'm stronger now than I've ever been. I'm still hitting PR's, still making good gains, recovery is good, etc...no complaints at the moment.

You just haven't read enough about how when you hit 35, your body becomes fragile and useless. I love training more now than ever. Yes it hurts, it is supposed to hurt.

No pain, no gain. That IS old school (seemingly), and I still subscribe to it.

Well excuse me. I' continue to train hard. I just don't recover well at all anymore. After doctor's appointments and blood work, getting "older" is the only thing I can blame it on. I'm glad y'all don't have any problems.

What gets harder is balancing life activites.

Lotta people over your age train hard (which is all relative) and recover.

Relax a minute. No one is denying that age is a factor in life, or that issues don't exist. Very few here will let it be an excuse for not continuing to improve ones self.

Do what you need to do, but do not expect too many to here, or anywhere most likely (some will for sure) to agree that at your current age (37, in case this thread is revived 10 years from now by some white knighter), that your age is that much of an issue all by itself. You eat right, and you went to the doctor. Seems like no significant issues were uncovered.

Go work out, eat, rest and repeat.

Maybe you should take a closer look at your training program and fine tune it. Sometimes just the smallest tweaks can make a huge difference.

Actually, I've thought about changing some stuff up in the way of more sets, less reps. I'll try it out this week and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.
