Question Furosemide prior to contest

Hei.

I have a friend who is a bodybuilder and not too good with computers. He has hence asked me to find out how he is going to use Furosemide prior to contest. He is going to run in the norwegian championship mid october. So far I have figured that he should take 20mg of Forusemide Seguril along with 3grams of potassium per day the last four days prior to his contest. He is cutting the sodium and starting to carb up four days before the contest. The last night before the contest he likes to eat a big pizza or other junk food to give him extra pump on stage.

He is uncertain about what to do about the liquid intake prior to contest. Does anyone know when he should cut the water and how much he should drink prior to contest when using Furosemide?

Thanks a lot.

Lightbulb FUROSEMIDE

NEVER USE A POTASSIUM SUPPLEMENT WHEN USING ANY DUIRETIC, AS THERE IS NO SODIUM TO COUNTER BALANCE. THERE IS PLENTY OF POTASSIUM IN THE THINGS YOU WOULD BE CARBING UP ON......I ALMOST DIED FROM THAT- I WAS 45 SECONDS SHORT OF CARDIAC ARREST BECAUSE THERE WAS TOO MUCH POTASSIUM AND NOT ENOUGH SODIUM AFTER THE FUROSEMIDE.......IT WILL MAKE YOU FLAT TOO...AS YOU NEED 3x THE AMOUNT OF CARBS JUST TO GET A PUMP.......WHEN YOU CRAMP-----99.9 % OF THE TIME IS BECAUSE YOU ARE LOW ON SODIUM---NOT POTASSIUM. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY COMPETITORS I'VE SAVED BACKSTAGE AT THE MAJOR PRO & AMATEUR SHOWS BECAUSE OF THIS.....I SPENT 13 YEARS AS A PARAMEDIC BEFORE I EVEN BECAME INVOLVED IN THE SPORT.
BEST BET IS TO JUST STAY AWAY FROM THEM..GRANOLA PULLS THE WATER OUT BETTER THAN ANY DUIRETIC.THINK OF IT---YOU ARE LOW ON WATER..PRIMARY FUNCTION IS DIGESTION OTHER THAN HEARTBEAT, RIGHT?? GRANOLA GOES IN BETWEEN YOUR CARB & PROTEIN MEALS(1/2 CUP OR SO) (THE DAY BEFORE AND DAY OF YOUR SHOW) YOUR BODY SAYS---"OK...I NEED WATER TO DIGEST THIS GRANOLA IN MY STOMACH- WHERE WILL IT COME FROM"?
SUB-Q(WATER WILL BE DRAWN OUT FROM UNDER YOUR SKIN TO PROCEED W/ DIGESTION.....MAKE SENSE???? ANY QUESTIONS, JUST EMAIL ME...

Furosemide

Thanks for your reply CeeJay.

Strange about the potassium. It came highly recommended to take with furosemide in the article: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/catlasix.htm - and I quote:

"Adding a potassium supplement to furosemide is wise, 1500-3000 mg daily normally. This keeps electrolytes somewhat in balance and helps prevent the worst of side effects such as nausea, dizziness and cramping."

Anyway, his contest is only two weeks out now. I did not receive a reply to this posting fast enough, so we figured he would try it out to see how it works. Here is what he did.

Wednsday: 20mg furosemide, 3000mg potassium, diet food.
Thursday: 20mg furosemide, 3000mg potassium, diet food.
Friday: 40mg furosemide, 3000mg potassium, junk food (a lot).

He weighed 99kgs in the morning on saturday. He was looking really ripped, but a little bit flat.

He will take your advice on cutting the furosemide 16 hours before prejudging, CeeJay. This will probably rid him of the flatness. There is not much chance of getting bloated at this time because he is not drinking any water. At least so we figure.

About the granola. Norway is a wonderful to country to live in except for one thing. It is much easier to get hold of black market prescription drugs than good supplements (I guess granola is of the latter category). A lot of the stuff you guys take for granted, is illegal here.

This site and the guys at it, have been really helpful to me. Thanks.
