I'm growing out my hair long because I know nows the last time of my life I'll be able to. Certain jobs have rules and requirements. Why the fuk should anyone be exempt? You want the job, you comply with the rules. Simple as that.

But I have seen pics of US soldiers with full grown beards in Afghanistan conflicts. Even pics of stubble and shorter length beards.

Why is the standard ignored those instances?

Because those are special forces that are trying to 'fit in' with the locals for relationship reasons for the time they're doing that kind of mission. Everyone else still has to comply with normal grooming standards.

I find it weird since the army already has many Sikhs in its ranks who are exempt from certain grooming standards. They're a warrior race and have been fighting jihadists longer tha we have.

Nothing wrong with being Sikh, nothing wrong with accommodating religious observance.

You must adhere to military standards and no exception have or will ever be had that disrupts safety as well as uniformity. There are reasons for the standards.

That's why the military is against people like this cause there have been cases of people refusing to do needed things in war cause their religion says not to.

Dude, I didn't say they were hiding the fact of who they are. But the way they intereact with the locals, they adopt their customs to 'fit in' for relationships they form. Once they aren't doing that mission and return to the states, they shave too. Same goes with drinking. We (US Soldiers) aren't allowed to drink downrange, however if it's a ceremonial thing where not drinking would offend the person they're dealing with then you drink it.

Growing a beard is not a right. It's a part of male life.

This is why i have no interest in joining the military at all, even if there was a draft. If they would allow me to be a man, and grow out my beard for intimidation and male reasons. Then I will die for my country in that context.

I am already willing to put my life on the line for my enemy and my brother. Not because of "military training" but because Jesus Christ himself says that this act alone is the greatest act of love for another. And his standard supersedes the subjective standard of man any day. I don't need a general telling me this. I don't need that special training to allow this. The option is there whether or not I am in the military.

Can someone please explain to me why you guys are so mad about this man requesting a waiver, since DoD has already changed its policy to allow such requests

i am indian and let me tell you, being indian is actually a great thing. we have beautiful people and we have ugly people. just like any race. I for 1 am a great person, have great friends, and i take care of every one that is in my life and i am glad to do it, and for that i have people that love me around me. also, indian parents are one of the best parents you can have. sometimes they can be really strict, but they will take care of you no matter what, and they will buy you what ever it is that you need. as long as your not a selfish ****head. I don't think anyone here is that rustled except the few that are arguing for the guy actually. I am in the Army about to hit 22 years next month, I'd love to have a beard but I shave everyday because I have to. Of course I can just retire if it were that big of a deal. People are just responding to questions and arguments from guys that asked.

But on the other hand, not sure why he wants to join an organization that he doesn't want to follow it's rules. I think he's most likely doing it to make a point about the religious thing. Although others have done it already, so not really sure why he didn't get a waiver either but there's probably more to the story than is being reported.

Ever wonder why the smartest & brightest men in america have zero desire to join the military? Ask yourself that. How would our military be today if it tried to recruit those men?

The "US Army" is not necessarily involved in who is allowed in ROTC programs or not.

The US Army currently has Sikhs serving in their ranks. Even with a silly camouflage turbin, shaving profile, etc...
