The U.S. Army is refusing to allow a Hofstra University student and practicing Sikh to enlist in an on-campus military program until he complies with its grooming policies, which are in violation of his religion, according to a lawsuit filed this week.

was reading about early sikh and paki pioneers in america. weird (and cool) to see pictures of them from 100 years ago standing in the pnw wilderness in their turbans and traditional outfits. they must've seemed like far-out aliens.
they changed the military regulations for sikhs a long time ago though. this young sikh is just falling victim to sjw ****giness.

was going to say he could get fuarked until reading that the Army already has a precedence set for Sikh people who wear turbans and have a shaving profile to adhere to.
If they program he is trying to get into won't follow in suite with the protocol the Army already uses, i hope he wins
If they campus program does already follow the Army protocol and he doesn't want to follow that, then **** em.

Hmmm.. tough case as I can see from both sides. The only thing is where and when do we draw the line?
There are other extremist religions/beliefs. Take Naturism (associated with nudism) for example. What if one of them wanted to join the military but didn't want to wear the uniform? Do we make an exception for them as well?
Definitely not an easy answer. Special forces don't shave either. I would think as long as when he enters combat and wears a helmet for safety and other necessary equipment should be no prob. Then again - a standard is a standard."We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit." -Will Durant
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." - Marianne Williamson
"The only guarantee in life is death, live a life worth dying for." - Me
"He who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man." - Samuel Johnson
"It's not over UNTIL I WIN!" - John-leslie Brown (Son of Les Brown)

not in the military, but had family who were.
Look, government is separation of religion and state. The problem here is this:
If his religion prevents him from shaving his beard, what else will he not do during a time of battle?
That's why the military is against people like this cause there have been cases of people refusing to do needed things in war cause their religion says not to.
In the military, you follow orders, not religion.

Dude I bet his traps are "sikh." Ziiiingggg (you know...due to holding it up at all times...)
But seriously, can you imagine having to go through training caring that thing? I say if he is good enough to out-preform his brothers in arms wearing a ****ing beanbag on his head he deserves to be there. Can you imagine this guy crawling in the mud with it? He'd lose it in 10 seconds.
Edit: Just wanted to add that I did not mean the term "beanbag" in a racist way. Merely that it would be more difficult to maneuver due to the added bulk.Last edited by TeHbOsNiAnDeWd; 12-02-2014 at 10:54 AM.
