Dumb title is dumb. How can it be an "unofficial world record"?

That being said Smulter is stupid strong.

It's unofficial because in IPF you cannot set world records at national competitions. But nevertheless it is a lift that was done at a competition, and it's higher than the current world record. So it's a world record, but not officially.

On a side note: the current world record is 260,5 kg (574lb) by Matthew Baller (US).

I know that, but that doesn't make it a world record, officially or unofficially because he didn't do it at World Championships. There's no guarantee he'll reproduce it, and it's certainly not just a formality.

Pedro Meijias bench pressed 282.5 kg at a USAPL meet. Shouldn't that be the 'Unofficial World Record'?

I realize I'm being stupid for arguing the semantics of the thing, but its just silly to start claiming records you haven't earned, and it's disrespectful to Baller IMO.

I get your point. I would say it's unofficial world record because it was actually done at a meeting under national IPF federation, and thus it meets all the criteria for an official world record, except for the part as you also mention, it wasn't done at an international championship. And yes, Pedro's bench should be the unofficial world record then

    Yes.

Also, I get that they don't count lifts done in other federations for records or anything, but by saying that this is the worlds heaviest raw bench, are they implying that lifts done in other feds just don't exist at all?
It'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. It might be impressive in the short run, but in the long run it just doesn't make any sense. ~breathinglife

As far as this YT channel is concerned E.Spoto is not even a real person.

And you if you take that further, James Henderson's 711 is still the biggest raw bench ever in a IPF federation.

The IPF has events in over 100 countries. I think it's pretty myopic to say their federations records don't count.

That's incredible. Had more as well. I read the youtube blurb and he said he done an easy squat (just one attempt) and a 'very easy deadlift.'

Why on earth would you leave so much in the tank on the two biggest lifts (normally) in a full power meet? I don't get that.

I gathered that, but it still seems mad to sit through a whole day of lifting and half ass 2 thirds of the competition. Unless there were no bench only meets on and he was at a peak. Even then I'd shoot for a better total. Yeah, I don't really understand it, but a truly great lift nonetheless.
