weight loss not always linear and very rough

    Hey guys,
I have been on a quest to lose BF and drop some lbs in the process as when I really became more focused on my diet I was at 202 lbs which was about 4 months ago. I am 45 yrs old and 5'11 by the way and never had a very bad diet and little to no sugar. I am down to 198 now was down to 197 but seems regardless of what I do my body stays around this weight. I have heard that our body's have what is called body set point or something like that as we can gain a few lbs or lose a few but or body's want to stay at a certain point. Any of you heard this? It seems like it will take a miracle to get down to the low 180's where I would like to be. Not sure what I am looking for from this post just kind of venting looking for inspiration given the holiday season is upon us very early to lose focus and really screw things up. Funny how you can really lose it over xmas and thanksgiving and gain like 10 lbs but it does not come off as fast.

Eat less calories than you burn and you'll lose weight. It's not much more complicated than that.

I try to keep my intake linear, the scale always catches up. If it doesnt for a long enough period I reduce intake.

It isnt easy, but its simple. Good luck OP, dont give up.

The holidays aren't even here yet and you're already using them as your excuse? Nobody gains 10 lbs of adipose because of over eating two days out of the year. Get your act together the other 363 days and the holidays won't be an issue.

You lost 4lbs in 4 months: eat less.

Are you weighing and measuring your food? Calculating calories correctly? Eating a deficit of your maintenance level calories (this is a no if you're not losing)?

Totally agree. I know for a fact there are points where my body seems happy, as I always plateau at those weights. However, if you keep at a deficit eventually you will go past it, or as said, reduce intake a bit.

Also dont let one bad day derail you. I have been on a cut for 4 out of my planned 8 weeks and today I just lost it. I ate about 2k over maintenance as a rough guess and everything in sight was fair game. I had a good lifting session though so the extra calories will go to good use.

Tomorrow I am back on my deficit and know over the next couple of days I will be back even. Take a long term approach to it and hiccups will happen, just do better more times than you do bad and you will get there eventually.
