Vac? I actually only interviewed with 3 of the 4. I never even got a first round with one of them for some reason. I never did an internship because I technically was a transfer student (I had credits I was using from 5 years ago to apply towards my degree) but didn't have an established current gpa to use. So I went back the next year and applied for a full-time position for when I graduate but at that point I had a gpa with my current school so I went that route and it all worked out the same.

I'm finally going to school again in my mid 20s and will be done by the time I'm probably 29. Hopefully I get lucky.

They do it at the same time as for full time candidates which is in the Fall. There is an event called meet the firms, assuming your school has a recruiting process, which takes place sometime in sept/oct then you. On my schools career website, where you apply for the job, there was one link for full time candidates and one for internships. Juniors do internships and seniors are going for full-time. You apply and wait for the email saying to come in for the first round interview on campus.

I didn't omit it. I just didn't think to list it. It's just under 60k with a 5k bonus if I pass the cpa exam in my first year.

Yea that's by far the toughest part imo is getting the grades. If somehow you can make it to the first round, if you are outgoing, normal, and dont say/do anything stupid during your interview process you should be able to land a job.

Exactly this. Not many people realize what having Big 4 experience does for your future in the business world. If you can stick it out to partner, which not many do, then all that slaving away pays off and you make the big money but most put in 3-5 years and move on to something that pays a lot more and has less hours. That's the nature of the Big 4 and the people know that. Even my interviewers stated how once you put in 3 years you'll have endless opportunities to move on if you choose to do so.

Get the grades. GPA will get you in the door. I had a 3.52 but I didn't hear of anyone getting called in with less than a 3.3. Once you get the interview it's all about being a likable person and being able to hold a conversation as the interviews were basically just a personality test to see if they like you mixed in with a few basic leadership and teamwork questions. I know some people that had close to a 4.0 but were socially awkward and didn't make it pass the first round.

More people need to read the part in bold. Doesn't matter how smart you are or how great your GPA is, if your social skills are not up to scratch, you will probably struggle. If someone doesn't like you, they won't hire you...

I have only been in finance 4 years but did a 'program' with about 11 others. Some of the guys in that group were the "smartest" people I have ever met, they didn't make it far because they just could not hold a conversation. Hierarchy weren't impressed. 2 or 3 of them were a little more "simple" (like myself) but have all done well because we have the ability to build rapport and communicate effectively. Obviously you still need knowledge, good character will only get you so far, but so will book smarts without the social skills to match. If more miscers focused as much on their ability to influence/communicate with others as they did on their GPA they may just improve their job (and life) opportunities. It comes naturally to some, others can practice and/or do courses to help...

My boss always tells me "'9 9's are 81' (his way of saying book smarts) is great at all, but it's character that gets you through life", that's coming from a guy with a multi-million dollar financial planning practice.

Sounds like you have the social skills and a killer work ethic to match it OP. Keep doing what you're doing! You're going to make it.

I think I'm a little above average in intelligence but I've worked hard and have been fortunate to have good people skills which I attribute a lot of my success to. IQ can only get you so far as you have mentioned and having EQ is just as important. Now if you are lucky enough to have a very high IQ combined with an equally high EQ and are willing to work hard, then you can conquer the world srs.
