are you trying to lose or gain?
I want to lose for this one (coming down from like 200 btw just got stuck in the high 180s). I want to see how I move and if I move better at 175. A lot of people have told me I could do well or even win in the class (that was pre-injury though) but I'll just bump back up to 200+ if I bomb the **** out. I have the "body fat" percentage to yield a superlean 175 at my size if I wanted to make the genuine cut and with the wife's help I can hold at that weight for a whole season if I wanted to.

Oh man I'm going to water cut but I've done that for stuff before and goddamn have I seen a whole lot happen to come within 2 lbs of a weight and still not make it. I also have some new awesome health issues (kidneys and liver) that make dehydration super bad news.

fuak that sucks - the closer this meet has gotten the less good it has shaped up to be.

Malan no full power, Zahir vs Green is off, Byrd not making 198, kinda lame. The weight cutting argument has valid points on both sides but I'd definitely rather see 2hr weigh ins than 24, where the lifters don't even make their desired class.

However, because Andrey Belyaev and Misha Koklyaev are doing full power that pretty much makes up for it I guess.

    Also - Zahir's wife hit a massive 240.5kg.

can't say I didn't see that coming. I know dan walks aroudn way heavier than 242 but zahir looked way bigger (read:fatter) than that

I seem to have read a lot that says the same as RP states. 1g/lb is pretty common. Now, I prefer to base it on 1g/lb of desired bodyweight (cutting or gaining), but that is personal preference based on results from previous eating.

I am finally back in the gym after years away due to major health issues -- but I decided I have to be where I am happy and do what I enjoy.
Just hit a triple on squats of 315 (vid in the PR sticky). getting in on this thread so I can see what other people are up to and have somewhere to talk about lifts and be motivated since there are few people around me into it.
hope to get to know some of you and have fun following the thread

I know Duffin successfully did a HUGE cut to 220. It'll be real interesting to see how he performs on a big stage, I think it's what everyone's been waiting for since he switched to raw lifting (he did a lot more national type meets when he lifted geared back in the day). He seemed to imply this will be the last time he cuts to 220.
Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

If anybody is going to do it at 220, it'll be him. At least if it happens this decade.

As far as weight cuts go, I think it all comes out roughly flush in the end. I can tell you that cutting 20+ lbs of water is going to affect your performance 24 hr weigh in or not. IMO 8-15lbs is about all you want to do depending on your weight for peak performance.

Seeing as I lift at his gym and he's an amazing person outside of the gym (no BS PLing drama, successful in all areas of life etc) I'm of course rooting for him. I do understand the critism he has received, but ya I'm hoping he can hit that 2200 and go down in history.

I respect the fact that he seems to respond to the criticism by fixing it going forward, not getting into a dick measuring competition via the internet. When he squatted borderline high at a meet, he came back and squatted to depth next time (with more weight IIRC).

I'm disappointed not to see Malan squat, but otherwise it should be awesome. Misha could realistically hit something ridiculous. I don't know if you've noticed, but every time I've ever seen him lift, all his 3rds look like 2nds.

And is no one eager to see Sarychev up the raw bench WR to 330 kgs / 727 lbs? Belyaev's competing full power should be sweet. Anyone know whether 198 or 220? I'm out of the loop because no internet at home and wife is sick.

Also, in b4 Zakhir breaks Lilliebridge's 275 squat WR!

I have done it before. I went from high 250s to 231 for a strongman last year

Its not as bad as you would think especially if you're prone to water retention like a lot of powerlifters and strongmen. Truth be told, I think it might have helped me. I actually felt better after I loaded back up

Indeed. I thought his first record breaker (860) seemed pretty iffy on camera, however I wasn't there. But when he hit 881 it looked very damn convincing to me that it was in fact a good lift.

And yeah, I've never seen him respond to something negatively IRL or online regarding his lifting. And he puts out tons of information for FREE. That is especially rare in PLing nowadays it seems like with the advent of social media.
