subbed. my last hiking trip was in yosemite and big bear lakes, small day hikes as well, been to busy. luckily im graduating from the uni next week. plan on taking up rock climbing lessons, learn how to use ropes, and canyoneering in the summer. I'm planning a trip with friends to trail the high sierras. how did i never find this thread? haha.

Welcome. We have been tossed around to different sections. One day in the misc. Then not. Then back. Makes it hard to find us. Have any pics from your Yosemite trip? I am debating on whether to do Redwood/Tahoe/Yosemite or Grand Teton/Yellowstone for my birthday week.

This may seem like a silly question, but for the life of me I cannot find any info on it. I understand you should be training for the climb you are attempting in as similar conditions as possible (at least the last few weeks leading up to the climb). This would include "breaking in" and getting used to the boots you'll be using. I ended up getting the La Sportiva Nepal Cubes for my Rainier climb. However, in May/June/July in MD, there's not exactly any glacier travel or snow field climbs, so I'll be sticking to the steep inclined trails. Is it worth it to train in these on normal rocky trails in 80 degree heat while my feet sweat their balls off?

"Breaking in" period isn't long, but make sure you don't skip it.

Now I've worn them a couple of times and they don't hurt my feet anymore.

Weather is gorgeous today, so I'm headed up to the mountains to go snowshoeing. Hoping to get good cardio, fresh air, and pretty views.

Mirin all the pics guys. Haven't been doing a ton lately because the gf is pregnant. We took a random trip to Crater Lake yesterday, still a ton of snow up there so pretty much everything is closed/shut down.

Hiked Dog Mountain yesterday. 3000' of elevation gain in 3.5 miles. All the wild flowers are out right now so it was beautiful!

Quick solo venture up to the Sierras on Sunday. I wasn't sure how much snow there would be. The roads and surrounding hills were pretty bare, so I decided not to take the snowshoes. I kinda wished I did, but made it fine with just microspikes.

Ah, yes. The next mountain over is called Wind Mountain. So I imagine they both see their fair share.

Went on a trip down to Durango, CO to buy a new bike and do some climbing and possible back country skiing. I wish I had a good camera, the drive there was absolutely stunning, the clouds were super low and it was dumping snow! Here's a few pics:

Still dealing with a mild calf strain that won't fully heal 6 months post tear. Saw a new sports medicine doc, liked him a lot. He wants me to get into reformer Pilates and restorative yoga, thinks the root cause if just stiffness caused by inactivity preventing it from fully healing properly, said I need to get my body in tune. If that doesn't work then we can think about a PRP injection which are like 500 ish a pop. Calf is driving me crazy

Going to be in big bend in Texas for a few days hiking and camping and not sure what to do about food. I don't particularly want to bring cooking supplies and stuff.

What dates are you looking at and what airline? Air NZ sometimes has some great deals via Auckland. If you can get early enough in December and come back Jan you can avoid the Christmas/summer peak price increase.

December 15 to January 8. I don't even care which airline. I just want to keep the travel durations reasonable and the cost low. Anyways, it doesn't matter now.
