Problems following Keto Diet
I was curious to see if there are any extremely bad side effects to Ketogenic diets since i have just started one myself. I swim every week day for a swim team and coincidentally that is the exact time that i will be in ketosis. I was wondering if a 2 hour swim practice and Keto will have a negative effect on my body.
Also i have a post keto diet question. After the keto diet has ended, if you dont keep your diet clean, does your weight shoot right back up?

If you dont keep your diet clean, your weight will shoot no matter what diet or programme you were on before. You cant have blackforest cakes and ben & jerrys everyday and expect to look like Bradd Pitt

No, it means you need to drink more water. As long as you show Trace or Medium, you are in Ketosis. The darker or more purple it gets doesnt mean anything good, it just means you need to get more water in. Watch your urine color it should be colorless to light yellow.

ok. thanks.
for some reason out of all the forum boards it seems like theres not many pictures of people who have gone through keto. Like an actual loss of fat and not water. i mean sure you can lose 8 pounds and talk about it but i'd like to see some visual evidence

When you finish keto, you must slowly introduce carbs to your diet (like 50g a week) to not gain weight rapidly.
If it's purple, go to a doctor to see if you have diabetes or something, that's rare unless you're not drinking a drop of water all day and no green veggies.

I have the same question. I have been on this diet for a week now started last wed on a rest week. Only showed trace on monday prior to that it was negative. I drink a gallon to a gallon 1/2 of water a day. After the first workout this monday I went from trace to moderate skipped small and have stayed there. Now my workout was intense I used the one blindfaith posted in the sticky. I feel great in fact I'm kind of wired and look forward to the workouts. I did not look forward to working out before the diet. Is this anything to be worried about or could this just be my body adjusting.
Sorry for the hijack.

I don't think you need to really worry with moderate, it's the dark purple you should fret over.

Yes, the "Lazy Police" are going to come and arrest you for not being one of them

Hmm..I actually had all these symptoms when on induction..except for being sweaty...no dark purple thingy though. What bothers me is that diabetes runs in family

Then keto is perfect for you. There are a few full fledged diabetics on the board who have found that they can only keep their diabetes in check with a strict keto diet. Any attempt to eat carbs results in blood reading going wild.
I assume the diabetes in the family is type 2 (adult onset)? If it was type 1 (insulin dependent) you'd know by now if you had it.
Before the invention of injectible insulin, a keto diet was the gold standard treatment for all diabetes. The recommended diet was less than 40g of carbs, 85g of protein and 156g of fat. Some people lost weight on that diet, but they all managed to control or improve glucose and insulin levels.
65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

Ok this is my 4th day on Keto. i've been in ketosis since tuesday and i started my actual keto week on monday. i've lost about 14 -15 pounds since. This must be water weight im guessing. the more realistic part of my hopes taht somewhere out of that number there is actual fat being lost. Is that a acceptable number? or is it too high? all i know is that i've done alot of activity. Monday i swam 2 hours 3 miles pretty much non stop. and every day afterwards i lift weights 30 mins, cardio 30 mins, swim 45 mins.

ML, I hope that you're getting enough calories. Make sure you take into consideration all the activities you perform. One mistake dieters do is restrict their calories too much. Try increasing your calories by 100 until you get to a point you feel comfortable at. Hope this helps.
