If you keep the burgers healthy they're not bad. But most of the burgers nowadays are made on carb-filled bread and over flowing with cheese and mayo. If you cut all that out..you got a good burger.

well it depends, restaurant burgers can get pretty fatty but with my mom's burgers, she gets the 93% fat free beef with lettuce and tomato so they are actually good for you (and the bun).

On the buck menu at McDonalds, I get a double cheesburger, minues the cheese. Double hamburger for 1 buck. 30g of protein. ****ty protein, but it is better than not eating.

When I was lifting heavy and packed 20 lbs on my frame, I was eating 4 hamburgers post workout.

-They are usually high in Saturated fats.

-The bread is pretty much pre-digested. Its enriched flour, so it had most of its fiber stripped away.

-As for mayo...I don't see anything wrong with that, since the fats are not saturated for the most part.

Fast food burgers are very bad, the worst thing is how they cook it not the burger itself so much. They reuse the oil they cook it with which produces a lot of carcinogins and gives you that good burger smell and the higher temp. that you cook things at the more nutrients it loses, thus a very bad meal.

Burgers are good for you! Not only do they have protein, they also have creatine in them. The low fat ones are the best like 7% fat, that is some good eatin.

    burgers

I know how macdonalds(in the UK anyway) cook burgers firstly the oil is not re-used by Macdonalds for anything but frys and burgers are cooked under a sandwich style grill for 1 and a half minutes in their own fat then drained if they are quarter pounders and left undrained if they are not quarter pounders.
And hamburgers like other burger in the fast food industry (except lean/homemade/ veggie burgers) are fatty mainly saturates like other people have said.
And hamburgers contain dextrose and the buns possibly contain soya. And all fast food ketchup and mustard is sugar, flavourings, possibly salt and colourings and flavour enhancers. And I think personally that burgers that are cooked at high temperatures between 68-82 degrees kill nutrients like protein and creatine even if hamburgers and quarter pounders are high meat content wise but I dont think it can be called meat once it is quick cooked at a high heat.
And as a warning DONT eat Macdonalds burgers because they can be bloody (meaning they are not cooked properly).
However if you want a snack to eat the tuna salad is fine because it is low fat and machine packed for freshness but it may contain traces of nuts.
However if burgers(not related to places like burger king) are made from lean cuts of meat or low fat sources or cooked in a george forman or slow grilled or BBQed till the outside is black then they are fine.

I only count calories when I'm cutting which isn't very often so its not really an issue, you can usually remove about 50% of the fat from beef with proper cooking.

yeh and from the site LostP showed me I got all I need. Basically took the raw numbers and subtracted half the fat. I microwave and squeeze every last bit of fat i possibly can out of it.

I thought the soybean oil used in mayonais is not a trans fats...If its not cooked. As in with most oils....I will look this up though...

I thought the heating caused a chemical reaction, and then it was a trans fatty food source.

Trans fats aren't naturally occuring so you wouldn't get them in 100% beef.

Trans fats are added to products, either 'hydrogenated' something or di-glycerides of fatty acids.

if that were the case, the raw burger would basically look white with a bit of red marbleing throughout the meat.

IMO, there is nothing wrong with burgers, but it all depends on how lean the burger is, and how you cook it.

if you are going to get ground beef, try to get some that is at least 92% lean and 8%fat.

or, go to your local buther (if you have one) and ask him to ground a certain type of meat just for you. I usually have the butcher ground some top round steak or eye of round steaks for me. he'll even ground some chicken if i ask

then, when cooking it, dont fry it. simply throw that sucker on a grill
