I disagree op. I've found most dogs to be very lovey dovey even when there's no food involved. I had to watch a few dogs for my uncle when I was younger. They literally had panic attacks after he'd been gone for a couple days.

Cat's on the other hand... not so sure. Most of them seem all "I am alpha cat, this is MY house. You're going to feed me or I'm going to claw the **** out of your eyeballs when you're sleeping... or sit on your face (same thing).
