    Belt?

Hello so I'm 15 and I started lifting about a month ago, and I'm using rippetoes program. I am confused whether to use a belt or not on my heaviest sets. I'm currently doing a little over my body weight on squats and deadlifts. During warm up sets I don't use a belt but when I do my 3x5 squats and 1x5 deadlift should I be using a belt? I've read different posts saying beginners should avoid it but also they should use it to prevent injury. What would be the best thing for me to do

I would say don't worry about it just yet. I'm just getting around to a Beltless 330 Squat, and Beltless 350 Dead and I'm just getting my belt. Lifts will probably be plenty higher before inzer actually gets me my belt hahahahhaha

(Belt will only be used on my heavy heavy sets)

but srs, value the core strength you are gaining. Stick to it

You prevent injury by staying in good form. Belts just become a crutch as a beginner and actually led to me getting stalled on a couple things like squats for example. It kept me from engaging my core properly. Remember this tip because sometimes I even forget to focus on it during my heavy compounds and that is strict core engagement. Your core should be engaged before you even go into a squat or deadlift and this is crucial in preventing lower back injury which I would say is the one of the most if not the most common injury to sustain.

    Nope.

I'd suggest just training raw for the time being, no reason to use a belt at this point.

Work on your core strength, use chalk if you need too.
