We're not awkward, we're just very reserved, and we care very little for the whole fake attitude. If you ask a Scandinavian "How are you doing", like most Americans do as a "Hi", we're going to tell you how we're doing. In detail.
We also do not backstab eachother on every occasion like some potation further back stated. The vast majority of people I've met, are very loyal.
Approach a Nord (Atleast this is true in Denmark), we're very open and friendly. We might not seem like it, but if you cold approach a person, we're very inclined to talk a lot.
Alcohol is rampart though, as people need it to connect with each other. Culture differences I guess.

i'm pretty introverted, but living in the good ol' south, everyone tends to be very friendly
brb random people walking the other way on the street making eye contact, smiling, and nodding their head or saying hi
brb everyone is very open to random conversations with strangers

Depends on the country. Denmark is known for having cheap alcohol compared to the other countries.
Swedes come to Denmark to purchase alcohol, and there's a common stereotype here that all Swedes are drunk.
In Norway, forget about it. It might as well be liquid gold.
The drinking culture IS our culture. We drink constantly. Whenever we can. There is always an excuse to drink.
I think I read somewhere, that the youth of Denmark is the most alcoholic group in the world -- even surpassing Greenland which is known for incest, and drowning their sorrows in alcohol.

well fukk u bro
but my only experience of nordic women was two. One I cold approached and another who hit on me in a party. The latter was a sloot. About a 6/7...was actually VERY outgoing which was rather strange. The second was an 8. Real dime. Met her in a gym, she left for the summer and I aint seen her since. Damn shame

Lmao I can confirm, I were just a passenger in carpool or something with 3 random guys for 200 kilometers. I think there was about 20 sentences exchanged during two and half hours.
On the other hand I was partying with university engineers or something and we were naked (both men and women) in sauna all the time talking about stuff for hours. There are some racism there. Sorry if that is offensive, but I think it's more because of cultural/religious etc. differences. I'm not saying that it's right.
We are just a very homogenous people and anything different is not always welcomed with open arms.
And this does not apply to everyone, of course.
I don't live there anymore so assume that the younger people are more likely to be able to assimilate to the society.

Nope dude it is really hard
I have gotten 5 phone numbers(and dates) approaching girls when I have been traveling etc.
I have tried cold approaching a couple times in scandinavia where I live and I have always been shot down. Sometimes I will have a converstation which is going as good or better than one I have had with american girls I have cold approached, yet when I ask for their phone number it gets really awkward and they stop the conversation immidiately.
It is as if people have their group of friends and they are not interested in meeting new people unless they have to(start in a new class, at a new sport etc.) or if they are drunk.
Since I don't ike drinking anymore it is really hard ot expand my social circle
