Angry Sharp pain in the back of my head/neck

So last week I was using the leg press machine, 2 sets in, and suddenly I had this really sharp pain in the back of my neck. I rested for 5-10 minutes and then managed to finish the last two sets.
Today when I was squatting I felt the exact same pain but this time on the back of head and much worse. I was unable to do anymore after that. I've been told previously that my form is good, so I'm not really sure what's going on. Any suggestions on what's happening and ways of preventing it?

if you have serious pain in your back you should take a week or two off. yes it sounds like a long time but if your injury is very serious you could prevent a lot of issues

Would need to know a lot more. Anything make the pain better/worse, does it hurt when you aren't lifting, any headaches/dizzyness etc. To be honest right now sounds like skeletal muscle pain could be trapezius as it has insertions on the back of the skull or maybe cervical spine knots. To that I'd say stop everything that makes you feel the pain for several weeks and maybe see a physio if it is really bad. Once the initial trauma has been experienced you would need very little else to aggrevate it as you have seen with the squats. It genuinely won't go until you stop aggrevating it. That's if it's just muscular. Could be anything though
