I believe you are talking about Vancouver. Yeah that's a problem for people who don't own property already. But if you do own a home or condo and the value of it has now shot through the roof that's not really a bad thing.

God, no matter what the data shows you people just want to keep trying to bring up random situations. So let's be clear:

1. Canada's point based immigration is one of the best in the world and other countries model their immigration system on our own
2. That system only lets in people who have skills that we as a country decide we need at the moment
3. Once you get in, you can only bring your family over if you agree to completely pay for them, including if they lose their job even if you have gotten divorced since they came into the country.
4. Recent immigrants have one of the lowest crime rates in Canada regardless of what country they come from.

What you are referring to is actually an issue with our refugee system, not our general immigration system. The only problem there is that it is quite difficult to deport someone even after finding out that they committed terrible crimes in their home country. HOWEVER, even with those people they aren't committing increased crimes here, they are just bad people and should be deported.

It's funny, when I was taught CPR the guy told me that when he teaches in the states (border city so he does both) they go over gun shot wounds in detail. In Canada he said they only touch on it since generally Canadian shootings are done with hunting rifles and shot guns and you can't really do much, vs USA where it's hand guns and small ammunition.
