    Joining the Marines

    Senior in HS

Today at lunch I spoke with some recruiters about enlisting. Obviously they just spew out bs to get kids to join, but ive seriously always had a strong temptation to join and go ape **** in urban warfare zones with my semper fi brothers. Ive had my doubts as well. I aspire to be wealthy in life and I feel the marines is very risky due to signing your life away for 4 years and I may not come back to fulfill my dreams of wealth.

Tomorrow the recruiter is taking me to the recruitment office along with a few other kids to gain information from us and vice versa. Im really contemplating this. Im not asking misc for their verification on to join or not. I just want to hear your thoughts on the military and if you would ever join or not. If you are currently enlisted how is it?

First off thank you. Secondly think about it. That's 8 years of your life. It's a major decision and personally don't believe it should be made right out of highschool. I had 8 buddies go to the armed forces and over half of them wish they would've waited a year to decide. But the other half love it. One of them is actually the chopper gunner on the presidents helicopter. They all turned out as great men and I am proud of all of them no matter what man. They all really matured from the experience. Just remember tho. That's 8 years in that little signature

I was almost enlisted as a United States marine but my personal life got in the way and I couldn't bare leaving for 3 months for basic then 6 month of MOS training

In the end Op it's all up to you.

Find the reason why you want to join... If it's just to go ape **** or get revenge you need to rewire yourself.

I hate when people join the army becuase they want to prove they are strong. Might as well quit and think a more beneficial way to join.

I hope to go to Airforce to help pay for my Family and if that doesn't work I have a Backup plan. Like I said it's all up to you. Disregard your friends and think for your self... At the time of pain and war your the only person that stays with you.

Damn I only wanted to make one post today. Whatever

OP your signing your life away for 8 years not 4. It's usually 5 years active / 3 non active or 6 active / 2 non active

Newman is right, its 8 years in the marines. If you want something that is four years do army, a lot of colleges have ROTC so you go to school and get your degree while you do army training through the university. They give you extra money for books and housing you get to bank on a lot of the money they give you for books gave my friend $600 for books he ordered his online got all the ones he needed for $180. Plus pay for all of your school. Look into ROTC army or ROTC marines/navy. Though if you want 4 years I would go army.

i'm joining the dutch militairy in a few years, currently doing the 3.5 year studie for it. ( I.T specialisation.)

i would recomment you doing some research and do go fully on what you're told by the recruitment officer.

''but ive seriously always had a strong temptation to join and go ape **** in urban warfare zones with my semper fi brothers''

that is not the vision you should have when you think about it, infact if you say this why you apply for the studie i'm currently doing you're mostlikely not getting accepted.

OP, i'm currently enlisted in the US Navy. Active 4 years/4 years inactive. Finishing off my first year and it's alright i guess. I definitely wouldn't recommend the marines, not trying to put them down or anything because i've trained with them. They're super strict about everything and once you start fiending to be a civilian again you'll hate being in the marines. The Navy is a little less strict and is honestly easier. I recently got back from a mini 3 month deployment on a ship, wasn't too bad other than feeling like a robot 12 hours on 12 hours off aha. Lemme know if you wanna know more about the Navy i'll give you some insiders on it.

Most of my older army friends love it man. Don't know anyone that complained yet and that's out of a pool of 5 guys.
Dude you should honestly fully aware your self more about what you're getting into if you haven't already, just saying.
War zone is a sketchy fking place man, your brothers dying in front of you , etc etc. Gotta be on that courageous hype man not letting emotions get atchu.
Man if you actually do decide, I envy you! By the way, I don't know how you'd go about reaching your wealth goal....i doubt the army marine life pays much to make you wealthy. But good luck on your goals.

Yeah op I would say sit on it for a while and think it over. Why not college? It's a huge decision, and I realize I'm only 16, but both of my brothers are Marine Officers and I've seem firsthand what kind of decision that is. I wouldn't do it just to make ISIS "suck your cock". My older brother, having been an Officer of a platoon of 40 marines for about 3-4 years, is ready to get out and go to graduate school. I think, whatever your decision may be, that you sit and think on it for a while before you commit to it. Best of luck

Yea you shouldn't go. You don't join the army to fight and kill people you join to protect your country to represent it. All the wrong reasons.

Please tell me why you want to join the Marine Corps?

What specifically do you want to do? What MOS?

Not to be mean brother, but that recruiter is going to fuk you in the ass tomorrow if you don't know exactly what you want to do. When a recruiter sees a kid like you that doesn't have it all planned out, they swarm on you like sharks smelling blood in the water.

Do you realize that a lot of what you do in the military in general is like nothing of what you see in movies and TV shows or commercials.

Alright bro I hate to break it to you but the being a Marine isn't all about killing people to be honest most Marines won't even see combat it's not at all how you're picturing it, you don't take showers for days you use baby wipes to clean yourself you eat MRES everyday 3 times a day if you're in the field which if you're deployed and in a combat environment you'll be there a while, there's something us Marines like to call the green weenie if you enlist you'll find out real quick what it is. Trust me it's not the life you think it's going to be it's a whole lotta bull**** the life isn't for everyone. Most people get out after 4 years for a reason and the contracts are 4 years active 4 years inactive which basically means that they can call you back whenever and you have to go but the chances of that happening are almost 0 so don't worry about that. And I'm not trying to talk **** on the Marine Corps at all you get steady pay, some pride and you are hooked up after those 4 years (considering the G.I bill is still around when your enlistment is done) and some of the people I met are gonna be friends for life. All I'm trying to say is it's not all sunshine and rainbows where you shoot guns and blow **** up. If you're going to enlist just be prepared and don't listen to everything the recruiter says. Up to you OP but just be very sure before you sign that contract you're leaving everything friends family and a whole lot of freedom behind cause for 4 years the government owns you.

Well, you should be thinking hard to begin with lol.
The military isn't all "ape **** in urban warfare zones"

I honestly am looking out for your best interest when I say Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard is where you want to go.
These are your most "technical" branches so to say and offer a lot of applicable skills translatable into the civilian world. Not to say the Army or Marine Corps doesn't offer this, but realize that the Marine Corps is all about Infantry and support of the Infantry, and mainly the same goes for the Army in terms of long term sustained manpower.

PM if you have any questions.
