It doesn't really stop kids from obtaining it. I guess the problem would be the initial swarm of drunk teenagers when it becomes legal. If I'm remembering correctly, I think that the US tried this before and the result was many more people dying by DUI. I haven't fact checked that, just what I heard in high school

20 year old men going to court for drinking a beer
ayy lmaoA young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.
The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."
The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

When my mom turned 18 they lowered the drinking age to 18. 3 years later when she was 21 they changed it back to 21. If they did it before and it didn't work no way they are going to do it again.

No. And the common "if you can serve your country at 18, you should be able to drink" comment is stupid. Horrible comparison.
I used to drink at 17,18, 19 and so on. Looking back I was an idiot. Drinking and driving. Not knowing my limit. Dumb decisions.
People under 21 are going to get their hands on alcohol anyways, but at least it will be less percent than if the legal age is 18.

Totally agree drinking age should be 18 and driving age should be 18 as well.
I also think that age thing should simply be for who can purchase booze, if a parent wants to allow their kid of any age to drink under their supervision let them. It would seriously cut down on the number of moron kids who abuse it because its taboo.

Here in New Zealand drinking age is 18. Seriously its easy enough to get someone overage to buy it for you. The binge drinking culture in new zealand is notorious. I don't hear of it as being as big a problem in the U.S and most americans I know enjoy just a few drinks instead of getting blind drunk like the average new zealander.
Not saying the age restrictions are responsible for this but american culture sure has a better approach to alcohol consumption than us kiwis27/3/2019
