I've been watching Pumping Iron on Netflix on and off, I had not seen it until a few months ago. In the movie Arnold puts down just about everything about Lou Ferrigno, his build, posing, preparation, his family. At one point he says "he's like a little child and he looks up to me like I'm his Father." Both of them went on to commercial success but Arnold to a much greater extent.
Fast forward to Columbus Ohio, The Arnold Sports Festival, the last few years if I see Lou there, he's in a little booth, usually alone asking $20 for a picture with him. When Arnold arrives, he's like Jesus Christ Superstar or something, you can't get near him, he's got a huge entourage, people are cheering for him and holding their cameras and phones up just to try to get a pic of him.
After watching that movie, I believe I'll go talk with Lou for a while this year. He may not be a huge star but he was a damn good classic bodybuilder and I don't see why had to be in Arnold's shadow then, or now.

Some people just have that pull and can hold court so to speak I'm a Lou fan and always have been there's always someone in sports, music and acting that will send people rushing to see them. Lou has had a great life from bodybuilding and when he played Hercules his size and condition was far better that Arnold's!
Rockabilly ,muscle cars ,hot rods, gretsch guitars and tattoos all rock!

He is indeed very condensing to other competitors. I don't remember if it's in the movie itself or during later interviews he said he had extreme respect for all his competitors, but he played all the cards to win... including playing mind games with them to throw them off.
You can spend days, weeks or even months analyzing a situation - just trying to put the pieces together. Justifying what you should've and could've done, and what would've happened ... or you can leave the pieces on the floor and move on.

Lou looks way better than Arnold right now, but Lou will forever be in Arnold's shadow.
Arnold had character, charisma and stage presence, Lou was made out to be a doof-ball, needing his father to help guide him through his workouts/posing and that truly messed up any chance he had of getting out of Arnolds shadow. On the list for Bannukah

He is a very, very nice guy. I met him at the San Diego ComicCon. I think he's extremely sensitive and let Arnold get inside his head. He might still be battling demons from those days. I know he's had issues with self esteem since he was a kid because of his hearing loss.

For anyone who has not seen it, you need to watch "Raw Iron: The making of Pumping Iron". It explains that whole Arnold / Lou rivalry (most of it was embellished for the film). Raw Iron comes with the Pumping Iron Special 25th Anniversary Edition. I love Pumping Iron, still watch it all the time, but Raw Iron (IMHO) is even better!
Also - if you are a Lou fan, then you will love "Stand Tall". It is about Lou's return to the stage for the 1994 Master's Olympia. I bought this directly from Lou at a "Chiller" festival.

I've watched them all as well. I was disappointed by Stand Tall. Not that I expected it to rival Pumping Iron or anything, but the whole script was effectively ruined by the final result (without trying to spoil it for those who still haven't seen it).
I guess a similar (but lesser) scenario occurred in Pumping Iron, as Serge Nubret broke up the intended close competition between Arnold and Lou.
I like Lou but from the documentaries he features in, you can only conclude him to be the plucky loser of his generation.
Oh and talking of azzholes, I've never met any of them but have been informed by a few that Franco's a real arrogant piece of work.Accept difference. Not indifference.

Comparing Lou to Arnold in bodybuilding careers and and success out of bodybuilding...there is nothing to compare as near equivalents.
Arnold Mr. Olympia 7 times
Lou Mr. Olympia 1974 Olympia - IFBB, HeavyWeight, 2nd
1975 Olympia - IFBB, HeavyWeight, 3rd
1992 Olympia - IFBB, 12th
1993 Olympia - IFBB, 10th

How can you visualize training a muscle if you don't know its structure?

This 100%. Lou is a dick.
Mr O is more than just a physique. Who would you want representing your sport/brand? I think Arnold was the obvious and correct choice.
Lou came off in that movie like a shti head because he is. If he wasn't, he would have seen it coming.

I meet Lou back when he was huge....extremely nice guy. Very soft spoken and was very talkative to a young fan....spent about an hour with him backstage at a show he was guest posing....The gym I was working out at sponsored him to come to the show.
