    Free Testosterone Levels

I wasn't sure where else to post this but nutrition seems the closest match. I had a blood test done to check up on my health and satisfy my curiosity. My free testosterone levels were flagged as high which is great news but apparently the type of test used could produce falsely higher results than normal. I'm not sure if two difference tests were used for total and free testosterone because total testosterone is within the normal range and if the same test was used then I would assume the free testosterone results are valid.

I know the LC/MS-MS testing method wasn't used. Basically what I'm asking is, how much higher would my results be if the less accurate method was used?

    Thanks!

Were your FT levels calculated or directly measured? I believe measuring directly is quite inaccurate, better to get albumin and SHBG tested so you can calculate it yourself. You don't have data on albumin, but assuming you have normal albumin levels of somewhere between 40-45 g/L, your FT levels are roughly 16 ng/dl, which is good.

Your FT levels suggest albumin levels of roughly 20 g/L, which is far below the lower end of the range, which is something like 35-50.

But on a serious note, agreed. High testosterone levels (whether free or total) within the physiologic range are badly overrated. Can confirm because I have high T levels myself.

I have other data as well. Albumin is 4.7 g/dL within the normal range of 3.5-5.5 g/dL

How did you calculate the 16 ng/dL?

Yeah, I'm just wondering because the range on the results says 5-21 ng/dL is normal but mine was 26.92. I just want to see how accurate it is and if it will make any difference over a long period of time in terms of gainzz

The point of the post is that, even if your test levels are on the high end, if they're still falling within natural physological range, you're not seeing any special benefits from them.

Interesting. I'll have to read its validation because I know albumin also binds to tons of other things. Thanks

It just depends at which lab your blood work was analyzed. They all have different reference ranges. You were above this particular labs range, but would fall within another labs normal range. Either way, your free T levels would be near the top of most reference ranges.

"These calculated parameters more accurately reflect the level of bioactive testosterone than does the sole measurement of total serum testosterone."

Bumping this thread for completeness of information. Free testosterone in the bloodwork was directly measured and is more accurate than using that calculator. However, it was just a fluctuation; additional bloodwork shows average levels of free testosterone.
