^ Thats ****ed. Got a Ducati insured for $19,000 here and only playing $900 a year.
Braided lines is money well spent
I only had one poverty jap crap bike that didn't have them and when I changed over they certainly helped but those brakes were **** anyway.
Euro bikes seem to have way better brakes stock.

Gear recommendations ?
Looking for a jacket that won't be hot in warm/Florida weather.
What do you all wear for boots ? Would something like the wolverine 1000 mile boot be ok, or do I need a dedicated motorcycle boot ?
Finally, what about gloves ?

I find Dainese textile jackets are the best value once you have a few you can change swap the back protector throughout, all have great armour even on their cheap ones (its the same).
Just grab one with a removable liner and it will be great for nearly all weather. Also Dainese quality is usually pretty good compared to other brands like dririder and rst.
Bout to head off on a 2 day trip, love this weather.

Racing style boots will give you the best protection, but there is a wide variety of motorcycle street shoes/boots. Get something that at least covers the ankle. Not only do motorcycle boots protect you better, they'll also last a lot longer. Street shoes will get worn down quickly, especially the soles. Other concerns include bruising the top of your foot from hitting the shifter hundreds of times a day, or melting due to the proximity to the hot exhaust pipe.
Gloves - gauntlet style protect you best. I personally prefer a mid-length pair that covers the wrist, but doesn't go any further. Definitely get something that at least covers the wrist.
Speaking of gear, I see squids all the time wearing a vest like the one shown below with no shirt underneath.
I guess they know they look cool, but I wonder if they're actually successful in deluding themselves into thinking they're safe like that. My usual jacket is mesh/textile so I know I'm taking a risk, too, but at least I have armour on my shoulders and elbows, which have literally saved my skin before in a crash.
Anybody do this, or have any input? My thought process is that protecting your chest and back from a blunt force impact isn't going to help you much in 99% of crashes.| MISC KNEEDRAGGER |

Extensive road rash will make you wish you had died instead of being saved by that chest/back protector. For me, if it is too hot to wear gear, then I better take the cage. Never been too hot for gear though.

Sorry to hear that.
I'm always careful when I'm not my bike, but it's not even after the close calls while I'm still on my bike that I think about quitting riding - in those cases, I'm usually too angry to be scared.
It's when I'm lying in bed, just about to pass out in bed one night, and it'll hit me - how dangerous it is, how much it would hurt my loved ones if something bad happens to me.
But I've loved motorcycles since I was a child, and they truly make me happy. You can't live your life being afraid to take risks.| MISC KNEEDRAGGER |

Sad to lose another KDer irl. Its a risk some people think outweigh the benefits, some think the benefits outweigh the risks. Most of us are in the latter group, but at some point most of us will be forced to make the decision for reasons unforeseen at the moment. A wife, kids, or career may take the bikes from us if we decide that our personal lives mean more than motorcycling.
But for the ones who never get the chance to see life after motorcycling ends, it's really a bummer. RIP in piece, KD brah. You'll be riding again, wherever you end up.Everyone can talk chit on the internet until they encounter a 6'7 framed Dorian Yates barndoor boeing747 turtle back freak of nature who drives over 200+ on the autobahn

I feel safer comutting on my bike most of the time. I have the ability to get out of cars way a lot easier than I do in my Grand Cherokee which is big as a fuking whale.
But it is a scary realization about what can happen, but you got get wrecked crossing the street in your car, walking your dog, or just out for a ride on a street bike.***Knee Draggers Unite***

Thoughts on FZ-09 vs Street Triple R vs Duke 690?
All around the same price range. FZ-09 I hear has chit suspension but a sweet engine. Street Triple is all around good. Duke is a lot of fun but a 690 thumper so big vibration fest.

Im jelly, Ele. I'd also like to carve up that golf course on a dirtbike.
Triumph 675 > KTM > Yamaha
KTM could be #1, but they are pretty different bikes and it depends on what you want. If you're looking at those, you should look at the Hypermotard 821. It would be at the top of the list, and it's not terribly expensive. It also has longer service intervals (18,000 miles)
