Should the dumbbells be touched in chest exercises?

Should be the dumbbells be touched together when lifting up in chest exercises such as presses and flies? Do you touch them?

There is no need, but some people might like to get to get that last bit of contraction.

    Smile

I try not to as it takes tension off the muscles, and is considered bad form by perfectionists. However when I'm lifting heavy, and I'm struggling to control the weight for the last few reps il sometimes bang the weights at the top without realising until I've done it.

So I'd try not to if I where you, but if you do, I wouldn't say it's a big deal. It's not gonna make much difference IMO.

For presses there is no need. For DB flies (which i rarely do, i prefer cable flies) i make an effort to bring them together at the top.
