Its to cover their ass. They go off the general standard number based off of studies, etc. Families will always ask.
I have seen someone have months to a year to live and lasted a week out of the hospital.
I have also seen an old lady who had 3 hours to live and is alive for a week. It really varies. From Houston, now I am in San Diego

Yes. People want to know this. The patient can opt not to hear this, its not like TV/movies where the doctor just comes out and says it, they add that for dramatic effect. A person is asked before they tell them. And the estimates of time are always on the low end of the spectrum for multiple reasons.
Its my thyroid

We need a cure for Cancer now! Half of us will probably die of it.

yeah it's pretty jarring too.
my best bud's dad had colon cancer. had surgery in june. looking all good for chemo in august once he recovers and good prognosis. it would be hard but doable.
august comes and he isn't recovering from surgery like they wanted. they say "oh you have some scarring. we need to go in a clean it out then you'll be g2g."
brb, they open him up cancer is everywhere and he has 1 week left to live. makes it 5 days.
fukking cancer.
and what is wrong with saying the girl is good looking? to me it shows that you can't expect people to look like a certain way when it comes to cancer.*always pick 4 crew*
*vasectomy crew*
*house stark crew*
