    Best Post-Workout Protein Powder

Hey I'm jut wondering what you think the best post-workout protein is. Right now I'm taking AST's VP2, but its just about done and I was wondering whether that's the best to take after work out or of any of these would be better. Muscle Milk, Syntha-6, or ON 100% Whey Gold Standard.

I've read that the ON whey absorbs fast which is good, but I know the other 2 have other stuff in there besides just protein. Which would be best right after a work out?

Syntha 6, hands down. Most effective protein on the market in my opinion, and a lot of the guys at my gym.

    best powder

You want to get a mixture of casein and whey and you want something that is going to be low in fat because the fat slows the digestion. I would reccomend syntha 6 or mixing a whey protein with a casein protein, which is what i do. I would also recomend taking a gatorade drink with your protein shake to help spike your insulin levels, which will help circulate the protein into your muscles.

why would you suggest syntha-6? syntha 6 is mainly casein protein, is it not?

This is just my personal favorite, and has worked well for me

Dymatize Elite Whey - 2 Scoops
Now Carbogain (Maltodextrin) 1/4 cup (25g)
    Now Dextrose - 1 tblsp (15g)
    Creatine Mono - 1 tsp (5g)
    Glutamine - 2 tsp (10g)

    add 8oz water, shake well.

I like the idea of using casein with post workout. I might switch to 1 scoop whey, and 1 scoop casein.

Thanks. I'm looking to gain some lean muscle mass though, I didn't say that in my earlier post I odn't know if it makes much of a difference. I'm not too knowledgeable about protein powders but I'm learning. I'm taking NO Xplode now with VP2 after work out and once before bed. So ON whey is not the best for post workout I assume from these comments. I'm also thinking about cellmass from BSN. Has anyone taken that or do you think it would be benificial?

ON is a good post workout protein. It's cost effective too. The reason Musclemilk and Syntha aren't good post workout is their fat content. It slows down digestion.

If you want a simple answer buy ON or Dymatize Elite Whey. Both are fairly cheap and good quality protein.

edit - Most peoples choice for best usually comes down to taste.

In my opinion, I would recommend Muscle Provider by Beverly. Of the options you give, I would stick with a whey based protein if it is for a post-workout shake (ON).

Nectar would be a good choice for you. It's a WPI so it absorbs in your system quickly. Also the flavors can't be beat. I would suggest you give the Twisted Cherry or the Fuzzy Navel a try.

Any decent protein powder will do just fine. I use Twinlab protein 25 grams of protein per scoop and more BCAA's than ON whey. I take 3 scoops post workout. No need in buying some special super expensive magic powder. Good Ol Whey protein And if you want a Post bed protein shake save your money and put a little cottage cheese in the blender with your Whey protein you won't even taste the cottage cheese it's dairy product like milk, will have same kind of taste to it. It all comes down to Whey, you can do so much with it and it's cheap and effective. Anything beyond is excess that you don't need.

post workout in its simplest form should be whey + carbs. from there you can get to a more optimal shake by adding things like creatine, bcaa's, leucine etc. but whey + carbs will do. a blend of quick [malo/dextrose] and slow [oats] carbs is ideal.

I've read that the ON whey absorbs fast which is good, but I know the other 2 have other stuff in there besides just protein. Which would be best right after a work out?
Out of those ON's. Cheap and most people like the taste.

Our upcoming issue of intelligent design (www.intelligentdesignmag.com) may very well open some eyes to the benefits of casein in the PWO period. Alan's article is quite impressive.

Not so much for post work-out. This is an extended release protein. After you workout I would recommend a quality whey protein that your body will digest fast, or even some hydrolyzed (pre-digested) protein. Syntha 6 is the best tasing product, but use that before bed, or pre workout, since it is a protein cocktail.

And I've recommended hundreds to his thread. After trying (and reviewing) Sustain, however, we asked him to write for the magazine and he graciously accepted. There aren't too many people on this forum I "look up to," (I respect many, but not "look up to") but Alan is definitely one.
