Some products sure are, but plenty are not. And bodybuilding.com sells its own basic supplements that are tried and true (fish oil, creatine, and beta alanine, for example). Over the counter supps aren't gonna be as effective as gear, but that doesn't mean they're snake oil.
Anyways, the reason bb.com doesn't want talk about "juice" on the forum (or any illegal substances) is because they don't wanna get into legal trouble.
edit - not sure why Ikatsu negged me for this post. The mods have already made lots of posts about why we're not supposed to talk about illegal substances on the forum...

95% of supplements are overpriced BS. typical stealth, now you're defending the scummy supp industry. Haven't you seen the ads or what they imply? Take this brand of creative and look like mr olympia blah blah.
Heck with the majority of protein tubs spiked with glycine is enough to make me avoid them completely

Tons of things are marked up, but so what? It's convenient - like a one-stop-shop.
Protein is not BS, creatine is not BS, beta alanine is not BS, citrulline malate is not BS, fish oil is not BS. All these things have scientific studies backing them. It's your own fault if you don't do your homework before deciding which supplements to take. The fish oil here is about as affordable as the one from Walmart but tells you exactly how much EPA and DHA is in it, which is an added benefit (plus, the one from Walmart gives me fish-oil burps). Just to illustrate one example.
Who cares if other websites allow it? Point is, it's not allowed here, it's not a secret, and the owner has his reasons. It's his business, and that's that. It's similar to if people would be getting upset about not being able to throw trash on the floor at a restaurant even though they allow peanut shells on the floor at a steakhouse. At the end of the day, it's up to the business owner. And it's really not even that big of a deal in this case. Nobody is forcing people to only post on bodybuilding.com, nobody is keeping you from talking about illegal substances elsewhere, etc.
Some brands have been cleared as not spiking - so choose those brands. Or just buy chicken. And who the hell buys 95% of supplements? It's your own fault for being a dumbass if you do that. You should buy a FEW things that you don't get enough of from your diet. Supplements are not substitutes. Creatine on here from bodybuilding.com costs about 10 cents a serving. Hard to complain about that.
It's nobody's job to tell you what the best deal is for what you want, or even what you should be taking. It's *your own* responsibility as an individual.Last edited by stealth_swimmer; 10-05-2014 at 10:51 PM.

It's risky from BB.com's point of view because they have a shop, which complicates things from a legal perspective.
Having a forum where you discuss steroids is fine. That would be classed as an educational resource. But having a shop where they sell food supplements means they get up in the FDA's grill, and they have to adjust their behavior accordingly. We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.
You can't stop us. You can't hold us back.

My god you are dense aren't ya stealth? Nobodies arguing that those supplements are useless, we're just pointing out how the majority of so called sups are way too overhyped as to compared what they actually do.(take brand x creatine to look like Ronnie coleman for example)
That's why some of us are pointing out "snake oil". You're just a really thick headed donkey that has to defend everything from the "fitness industry".

"snake oil" refers to a scam - something that doesn't work, not to something that's "overpriced"
One could argue that milk at the grocery store is overpriced. I don't defend everything from the fitness industry, I think a lot of people, for whatever reason, just have a really self-entitled mentality when it comes to supplements, finding the best bang for your buck, and seeing what works. They feel someone else should do all the work for them. I'm totally against amino spiking, proprietary blends, and not labeling stuff that's in the product. Who wouldn't be?
However, when someone says all supplements are "snake oil" that literally *is* saying they're useless. As for something being overhyped - that's not unique to the supplement industry. That's just marketing and occurs in all industries. Do you really think drinking beer guarantees you're gonna have an awesome party? Do you really think wearing a certain kind of shoe is gonna make you perform like a pro athlete? As we can see, this type of marketing is not unique to the supplement industry - but for some reason, people on this forum act as if it is and get their panties in a twist over it.

But that's the problem stealth, mostsupplements ARE useless aka they're snake oil. You just argue for the sake of arguing.
Of course overhyping isn't unique to the BS supplement industry, but in the supplement industry, it is blown WAY out of proportion. Heck, all you really need in my opinion is spiked free protein, creatine, and multi's. The rest, while some have benefits, are complete scams

I think it was obvious to most from the beginning that either Phil Heath was using something different or he responds differently than the majority of other competitors. Not including this year, Phil Heath looks his absolute best on the Olympia stage, he doesn`t even look the same the next day during photo shoots. Somehow he gets blown up day of, and you can tell he grows into shows because he doesn`t get much smaller than his offseason look yet he comes in completely shredded. He`s gaining muscle and lsoing fat at the same time and then on the day of he takes it even further with whatever they`re doing to get him looking like a full blown cartoon on stage. For certain he is rare.

Its not possible to grow into show unless 1) u r coming back from long lay off- then the first few weeks, u can gain both muscle and fat at the same time 2) u r an obese bodybuilder and beginner at that n cant wait to do shows as soon as possible 3) U start to go on a drug cycle.....A natural Bodybuilder who trains hard in the offseason n going into contest mode will not be able to shed fat and add lean mass at the same time....

Doesn't usually. The only time you grow and lean out at the same time is if you'd had some serious time off, injury, etc.
Anyone who says they grow into shows is feeding you a bunch of BS.
Losing fat = training at a caloric deficit
Caloric deficit = not building muscle.
