How To Get Smell Out Of Horse Stall Mats?

So after about a year or two for my gym I am finally getting horse stall mats for flooring this weekend. I've researched and read on these forums that most times they have an odour to them, now I'm wondering what's the best way to get rid of the odour or lessen it before I set them up.

You could wrap them in duct tape.

Honestly the smell goes away pretty quick. Some people have used simple green and scrubbed them. If they are stored outside at the place you purchased them they should have off gassed some already.

There is this stuff called "fish sauce" or patis at any asian grocer. Don't buy at a regular grocery store, they sell little bottles that are way overpriced. Grab a couple liters or so, and soak the hell out of those stall mats. Rubber scent shall be gone in no time. Just let them air dry in the sun.

Spray paint them. Then use duct tape.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

    In for a real response......

I don't really think there is a way to do it except laying them out in a garage or something like that.

Like everyone else, I bought mine from Tractor Supply. I got the last few sheets on the pallet and they were stored outside at the store. I'm sure they had been outside for quite a while, but being stacked on top of each other must have prevented the mats from off gassing. It took about 4 weeks, but I think they have finally finished off gassing now. The smell was never super strong, but it definitely has a "plastic" odor. So unless you can store them in such a manner that they can off gas for several weeks, I think you will be stuck with the smell for a while.

I installed mine in the garage then poured a gallon of Gasoline over them and left overnight. It neutralizes the chemical smell in the rubber quite nicely.
