As soon as the plane landed, the date I had coming up popped into my mind. So I picked her up that night:
But what if things weren't as good as I remembered them?
GTFO.

Jeni’s Birch & Marshmallows
Vanilla and root beer are the main flavors of the base. However, there is a very subtle, but nice, touch of wintergreen on the back end of each bite. I love wintergreen and vanilla, but I’m not the biggest fan of root beer in general, especially with ice cream.
I don’t know how they did it but all of this actually works together. The base was pretty dense, and much better than other post-listeria pints I have scooped so far.
The marshmallows don’t really add much to the flavor profile but do give you that extra kick of sweetness every few bites. Their texture is very soft and gooey. They are actually slight grainy as well, but they tear apart when your spoon hits them. This pint had a fair amount of them as well.
Nothing to rant and rave over, but I was impressed. It caught me off guard. Everything meshes together in this pint and each flavor builds off of the other. And believe it or not, it wipes the floor compared to Ample Hill’s root beer float flavor, Floatin’ The High Line. It was a summer release, but if you can still find it, I would recommend giving it a shot because of how unique the flavor is overall. B-

The Wegman's Pumpkin Pie seasonal is pretty decent. The flavor is more pumpkin spice than actual pumpkin, but I like the pie chunks that are in it.
I've been eating it w/ the pumpkin Mighty Muffins (which weren't so great tbh- they just tasted like buckwheat). You can't help the hopeless.

I know HaloTop gets a lot of hate on here, but it's hard to deny the popularity of them right now. Considering it's not really ice cream, do you guys have any favorite flavors?

I was serious. I just use a "banana ice cream" recipe and added a scoop of whey. The prep time is like ten minutes.
I tried Halo Top, but I couldn't get through the pint, much less eat it in one sitting.
I just used a banana ice cream recipe like this one and added in whey. I added a bit of milk so that it wouldn't be powdery.
If you don't have a food processor, you can just make the mixture and then freeze it instead of freezing the bananas first. That works too.You can't help the hopeless.

Even though I don't like HT or AZ, I wish people who wanted to share their ice cream experiences would post in this thread. As of late, it's the same handful of people posting and anytime someone posts with a different view than that of the small group of regulars, they're negged or told not to post.

All i can tell aside from ice cream talk is....it's much better to eat it then to photograph it.
By law ice cream has to be REAL when shown on packaging..at least it was when I did it.
Ice cream shoots are tough, especially for the food stylist.
This was the best example of the work I did

That's kind of what I was thinking...it was hard enough trying to find the new flavors! I've tried Cookies & Cream, Birthday Cake, Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate, and Oatmeal cookie and I have to say my favorite so far has been the strawberry.
My ranking:
1. Strawberry
2. Birthday Cake
3. Vanilla
4. Oatmeal Cookie
5. Cookies & Cream
6. Chocolate
Since I've tried them, I'll gladly review them! I know it's not ice cream, but the way I see it is that my brain considers it ice cream and so when I eat it, I think I'm eating real ice cream and so it's like a cheat I can the whole pint of.Last edited by mccyjcb; 10-26-2016 at 02:34 PM.
