I hate this thread. It always reminds me of how ice cream in Denmark is either poverty chit, or like $10 for a pint of B&J. Of which there are like 4 variations in the country.

why not just make your own? the chocolate over there is 10000x better then what it is here. If I remember right the cocoa beans come from like africa or something vs in the US they come from south america. I was shocked when my parents brought back some honest to goodness swiss chocolate vs the stuff we get here in the US, there's just no comparison.
When you get down to it ice cream/custard is just milk+eggs+sugar+goodies+cuisinart ice cream maker (40-100$) just take a 50/50 ratio of heavy cream+half and half and like 4-5 egg yolks and you're good...(do some reading of coarse first though)Runner Crew (48.6 miles Dopey Challenge -- Completed)

I have tried that (neg-train, much).
I tried making my own with GY + whole milk + yolks + 1/2 sugar + 1/2 stevia + picked berries, etc etc If was good, but I don't want to have to clean all the machinery EVERY time I have some ice cream. I'm too lazy!
Also, I'd like to have decent ice cream at a decent price.
And in terms of chocolate, there's nothing here. I still have to order in from Switzerland, France or Italy if I want decent chocolate. Or abroad of course. :P"As our circle of knowledge expands, so does the circumference of darkness surrounding it."

So I wanted to settle the question of Graeter's Caramel Truffle Gelato vs. Talenti's Sea Salt Caramel...and it's going to depend on what you like...Talenti has a smoother and harder base that is much closer to a true caramel flavor...Graeter's has a strong lean into the the vanilla direction and is much sweeter...however, when it comes to the truffles, Graeter wins by far...they are larger and filled with more caramel as well...
With that being said, I'd probably go with Talenti's most of the time given the majority of the flavor/texture that we get when we eat these pints is that of the base rather than the truffles...
Of course, neither one of these is better than 2nd Street's well known variant, but this was a gelato battle...

^Thanks guys! Will be checking them out.. Speaking of Spiced Pumpkin Pecan by Blue Bell, looks like they will be bringing back Christmas Cookies & Fudge Divinity (very underrated flavor IMO) this year as well as a new Peppermint Bark Ice Cream.. Thank goodness it is a mint ice cream base instead of their peppermint base because that stuff was weak!

Looks like I may be ordering a shipment real soon!

I've never done it before and will only probably do it once or twice a year just pick up some of the seasonal/hard to find flavors.. AND surprisingly the shipping for Graeter's & Jeni's is ~$12 which is basically another pint when compared to Jeni's! Willing to drop a few $ for some extraordinary flavors..

http://theicecreaminformant.freeforu...uckleberry-pie
Overall this is a solid pint, not to mention it only cracks in at 210 kcals a serving which I found is pretty typical for Private select not a very kcal dense offering. The overall base is superb, its not cream of the crop like I had when I was it from the original place who made Huckleberry Ice cream, but it is pretty close and gives it a good replication. A very sweet and dense huckleberry flavor, with amazing Pie/Graham Cracker Pie Crust Pieces that give it the perfect compliment in this offering. If you like Huckleberry or never have tried it this is a unique fruit and if you ever venture out west you may fall in love wit it because they put it into truffles, ice cream sandwiches, and also milkshakes that are to die for. I highly suggest this offering if you have never tried a huckleberry and are a fan of strawberries or blueberries or a mixture of both.

Well I guess it was an "alright" pint for you.. I thought the base was very gummy in my pint! I also thought it was more of a blackberry taste, but I could see a blueberry/strawberry mixture now that I think of it.. I will say this though, I PROMISE you that all the other pints will be better than this! You definitely started with one of the weaker flavors.. Can't wait to see what you think about Pecan Pie (been holding out on this one for a while)! What other flavors did you pick up from Private Selection?
