Hey guys, I've been on a diet/cut for a few months now and progress has been good. I recently bought a BlueAnatomy scale which displays weight, body fat percentages, TBW etc. I know it is not a definitive analysis but it gives me a rough idea. I've been noticing my bodyfat % dropping but my TBW has been increasing. The scale says I'm around the 68% range for TBW(and 8.4% for bodyfat). The two questions I have are (1) is the 68% range normal in terms of TBW and (2) is it normal for the TBW to increase whilst bodyfat decreases? Is that just the compromise the body gives when losing bodyfat? Any help would be much appreciated. I certainly don't think I look in the 8% bodyfat range, I can still feel quite a bit of fat(or water).

This is not a confusing result, this is what you would expect. Muscle tissue holds more water than fat, so, even with no gain in muscle, a reduction in body fat means the muscle and hence water will be a larger percentage of your overall bodyweight. Overweight people will generally have a reading below 50%, whereas someone with average fat and muscle should be between 50-60%. This will still vary by a couple of percent during the day, based on hydration and food consumption and, as with all things BIA related is unlikely to be particularly accurate, but should give you some idea of trends over time.
