Because the people that stream talk to them and acknowledge them. Top streamers have legit thousands to tens of thousands of followers that schedule their life around that streamer so that he/she can "entertain" them.

Worse is when people donate to girl streams, just b/c they are girls. Some girl streamers who play LoL legit suck at the game, and they get 20k+ donations b/c they decided to put on make up, wear a push up bra, and start streaming after playing the game for a month.

QT over on LoL makes about that much...if not more. Regularly gets $500-3000 in donations a day, with the occasional single donation of $500+. Add in the ad money(he averages 16k+ viewers) and it's a HUGE salary.

probably both. There is more money than people think in pro gaming. For example the prize pool for Dota 2 this summer was like northwards of 10mil USD. Most of those pro players stream to make some decent coin on the side

adds are hardly a lot of money. they get like 0.03 for 1 30sec commercial per viewer + it pisses people off a lot who dont use adblocker, and those who do he doesnt get any money.

OpTic Nadeshot makes $6000/month from twitch alone and a couple more grand from Youtube and he doesn't have near as many views or donations as that guy.

(dude played the game for 12-16 hours a day every day, has a girlfriend and everything smh)

Idra (SCII and Hearthstone on Liquid) probably makes somewhere in the 125,000-175,000 range not counting tournament wins.

Obviously League of Legends players are the most paid from twitch. Tournaments on League average 200,000-250,000 viewers

Soda is failing to see the opportunity cost of this time he is spending on WoW. He needs to ask the question of, will this time of raking it in outweigh the likelihood of him going broke in 30-40 years . Answer most likely is absolutely not but he is in charge of that and needs to manipulate his fan base.
