For those of you that are Muslim, can you chime in on this;
This guy is your textbook looking muslim......I'm still kind of pissed but i'll get straight to the point. My supervisor is female. When he first walks into the conference room to be interviewed, he shakes my hand and my male bosses hand, but when my female supervisor reaches out to grab his hand he jerks his hand away as if he's appalled that she would try to shake his hand. He then says; "My god doesn't allow me to touch women that are not my wife or related to me."
...hands down the most awkward situation i've ever been in.
anyway, we awkwardly went on with the interview. My female supervisor was fuming. she had a few questions she was suppose to ask, but she didn't speak the entire time. He actually performed pretty well, but now there's this looming stigma looming over us. If we didn't hire him, it would clearly be because of his religious affiliation (and there can potentially be a backlash) but we really don't want someone like that working for the organization. especially the fact that its healthcare where 75% of the 6,700 employees are female. I remained neutral, but my male boss ultimately had the final say, anddecided to hire him anyway just to see how he would do.
The thing is, we have several Muslim employees that are not of the "radical" nature like this guy, they'll go out and drink and hug chicks and shit, so I really feel like this guy is being a douche. Not to mention he's really annoying. As I was giving him a brief tour/orientation of the place he's somehow come to the conclusion that we're friends just because I heave a beard too.
and probably the final conundrum to deal with is the fact that we have a female Iranian working with us as an interpreter. She wears, well, what westerners would consider "normal clothes" (skirts/summer dresses etc) and she doesn't cover her head. I really don't want this guy going off the handle or doing something crazy when he inevitably has to work with her.
cliffs:
-Hired a staunch Muslim
-afraid he's going to impose his ideologies on everyone he works with

Lucky for you if he does do anything it will be directed at a protected class, not a white male in a management position. Muslim is a protected class, but he would be fuking with the protected class flavor of the month (women).
I'm not saying anything negative against females, just that you should be glad this new hire will be be insulting a more protected class than what he is a member of. Meaning, it should make the decision for him to be fired quite easy.
Women's rights will trump religious freedoms.

I am confused by this. I have been turned down by tons of jobs this year. And this what they have told me every single time. Jobs that have no contacts with each other.
"We are sorry to inform you that you don't fit the qualifications of the position". Most of the time it's a automated email.
In no way do I think they are turning me down because I am a christian man.
So if you can't use subjective wording in turning someone down to avoid blacklash. Then you shouldn't be in charge of turning people down.
But he already has shown that he can't suppress his religion ideals for workplace hierarchy. Which is bad for team morale and synergy.
Even if you do hire him. You're probably going to have to deal with laying him off later on. People need to realize a separation of religion and politics at the office. I don't go around witnessing the gospel of Christ at my job, nor do i condemn peoples blatant sinful lifestyle. Or cursing Gods name in front of me when they get pissed at their computer.
I'm there to work, with a team, and successfully. If someone wants to ask me about Christ or the bible then I will talk to them, if I have the time."Don't be envious when the grass is greener on the other side because you don't know how much crap it took to fertilize that ground.
Are you ready? "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. (John 8:24).

so he doesn't want to shake hands, so what?
i cant believe this ISIS crap is actually working
btw the muslims , such as myself, who go out and drink or touch sloots are not really muslims; they just have that middle eastern islamic background. they dont come out and say hey im not muslim because it doesnt feel right to them even though they dont practice the religion.

Don't see the issue if he's a good person and qualified. I guess it could get weird if he has to be in physical contact with females, but if he doesn't, I can see why you're boss gave him a shot.

The current muslim employees that work for us are more lax, still refrain from eating pork and they participated in Ramadan, so........
lol wut? We're not afraid he's going to blow up the facility or start beheading people, we're worried that his religiosity will take precedent over working as a team.

as long as he keeps his beliefs to himself he will be fine...no need to hate on anyone just because they practice their faith. let him be...now if he starts going batchit crazy...then you have grounds to take action.
Keep us updated OP..Im curious to see how this works out...BTW I went to seattle a few years ago and theres a huge number of muslim guys who work for microsoft who have turbans and beards...never heard of any issues. This isn't the first time a musilm guy is applying for a job in the US...lol@misc..*Minimalist Crew*
