Oh lawd again with this nonsense...
U guys are confused about that Niel Degrase tyson speech, he never said there is a 1% difference in intelligence, but rather a 1% difference in DNA
A 1% difference in intelligence isn't even tha big of a deal, difference between the average person and their doctor is larger than 1%

I wouldn't call 100s of thousands of years barely lol
Do u know how far back in time we'd have to go to see when human lived and acted like monkeys (inb4 snarky jokes)? Over 2 million years ago
I don't understand why ppl are always so quick to call out humans for being barbaric and unevolved. In the long history of earth and our solar system, humans are by faaar the most evolved species, most self aware, and most intelligent species

In the great scheme of things that's barely any time.
Humans really are disgusting if you think about it. We kill each other on massive scale, waste limited resources, pollute our only habitable planet, destroy species. We aren't united as a species for the common good. Ignorance is rampant (religion). Etc. It's kind of depressing.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ ★cVc★ ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I aware you, misc.
In Catholic theology, which draws its philosophical roots from the merging of Greek thought with the Jewish tradition, the "soul" is simply the organizing principle of a living thing - i.e., the form that organizes the matter into such-and-such a type of thing, this thing as opposed to that thing. Plants and animals have souls, but not on the same level as higher beings.
The human soul is unique because it is a rational soul, meaning it is capable of reason. Hence, the classical definition of man is "rational animal." Therefore, if an alien life-form is ever encountered that proves to be rational, they would technically also be considered man (according to their philosophical species) even though their biological species would obviously not be homo sapiens. So what that priest says totally makes sense.
The rational soul is considered immortal because it is capable of grasping and understanding universal truths, which are themselves timeless and immortal. This confers an immutable knowledge upon the soul. Given this, it stands to reason that the soul has some capacity to receive immutable knowledge. The reason is that something lesser cannot receive something beyond its capacity, hence there is a principle of immutability inherent in the rational soul that is actualized (at least in part) by the knowledge of universals it attains. Therefore, something of the rational soul remains beyond the corruption of the body on account of this principle - the same cannot be said of plants and lesser animals, even though this does not definitively mean that they cannot be.
I'm totally stoked for alien life. Bring it on. Doesn't change a thing, just makes the universe more exciting on top of being hella interesting. I, for one, look forward to the Klingon Football League.

I know where ur going, and no that's not what I was trying to say with it. I'm just trying to put things in perspective, and yes I know that humans didn't evolve from apes, but rather a cousin of both, with one line making humans and the other apes
I've taken plenty of genetic and anthropology classes, as well as reading up on Wikipedia and watching tons of videos
I'm not an expert, but I do know what I'm talking about, so pls go with ur condescending bullshyt

I know that's why I said in my last post that I'm tryig to put things into perspective, and that's why I said 2 million years ago humans acted like monkey, because they were more or less monkeys
2.3 million years ago the homo genus sprouted, which we all descend from, and that's the genus we are all a part of to this day
