I have (or at least used to have) a minor schizophrenic disorder, I'm not full blown but I do have an issue to some degree, and I find that if I drink lots of coffee, I hear eerie voices before going to sleep. It's not pure hell but it is creepy. oh well.

We had a mass shooting in my part of the world a few years back. The guy did not speak English well, and sent a disjointed letter to the news media (I think his opening sentence was "Hello, I am shooting the people.") telling them that he was doing it because a police officer had been following him across the country ringing his doorbell at night and screaming inside his mind.

You'd ask yourself, hey, brah, why didn't anybody take you to the doctor about that? Turns out his parents did when he had his first episode of "talking to ghosts" as a younger man, but the doctors didn't understand what they were trying to explain because they spoke minimal English. After that he just sort of fell off the radar, until he suddenly reappeared years later, heavily armed.

If you have auditory hallucinations, that is more or less the #1 sign that you should talk to somebody right away. For whatever reason, nobody's voices ever say things like "be a good father", "lift heavy", "get a job". It ends bad without help.

Seriously though, how could you live like this 24/7? You would never be able to focus on anything, never mind studying/getting work done, you would not be able to sleep or do anything in peace. People really do take sanity for granted.
