Hello everybody!
So I've been bulking for 6 months now and gained 14 lbs so far (2.31 lb/month), however, all of that was gained with weight spikes.
I'd would stay at the same weight for a pretty long while, then up the calories JUST by 100 and all of the sudden 2.2 lbs gain or MORE, which did not go away. Then I'd be stuck at this new number for like a month, up the calories yet again by 100 followed by an even bigger weight spike.
Example: Last time, I upped the calories to 2300 and went from 139 to 144 in a matter of a week, I thought to myself "ok, that's too fast" so I went back to 2200, one month later now I still carry that 5 lbs on me.
This went on and on until I reached that 14 lbs, which gets me confused since I was aiming to gain 0.5 lbs/week steadily, as advised. I did progress though and all of my lifts went up.
TL;DR : Can't gain for weeks, cals get upped, then sudden weight spike which doesn't go away.
Now the question is : Is this really an issue? Also, why do I gain THAT much when I add only 100 calories?

when you first increase cals you get water storage too, so the sudden spike is probably water weight. then as you get rid of the water over time your are also gaining fat/muscle so your weight stays the same, but it is 'real' weight you have put on, not just water weight.
Gaining 1-2lbs a month is a good target, so you're doing ok. just keep the kcals steady until there is no progress then up by 100 again - don't suddenly drop back down in fear.
remember also that hormones mean weight can yoyo during the month

I noticed the same thing. I had 3 "cheats" (meals that I don't track but from what I can guess put me way over my bulking calories) this week and somehow managed to lose weight. I think it is just normal fluctuation and have given up trying to figure out why. I just look at the trends over a longer period of time to see if I am gaining appropriately.
