UK would have to move their Trident nukes out of Scotland, which would cost $5 billion and might make it cost prohibitive. Scotland would not be a part of NATO, or they'd have to spend (I think 2% of GDP) on Military, which they are not willing to do.
Scotland is militarily advantageous to the UK and NATO.

Operated by the Royal Navy and based at Clyde Naval Base on Scotland's west coast, at least one submarine is always on patrol to provide a continuous at-sea deterrent. Under the terms of the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review,[1] each will be armed with a maximum of eight missiles and 40 warheads, although their capacity is much larger.http://news.usni.org/2014/09/16/roya...and-leaves-u-k"Trident" is based at HMNB Clyde, in western Scotland. This comprises two facilities, a submarine berth at Faslane near Helensburgh, and an ordnance depot at RNAD Coulport.
Faslane was chosen at the height of the Cold War because of its position on the deep and easily navigable Gare Loch and Firth of Clyde. This position provides for rapid and stealthy access through the North Channel to the patrolling areas in the North Atlantic, through the GIUK gap to the Norwegian Sea.
Coulport is used to store the warheads and provides loading and unloading facilities.
In addition, repair, refuelling and refit of the Vanguard class submarines is carried out at HMNB Devonport near Plymouth.
The heart of the United Kingdom’s nuclear submarine enterprise could be cut out if Scotland leaves the U.K. in Thursday’s referendum on Scottish independence, British leaders have warned repeatedly over the last several months.
Scots voting “Yes” for independence say they’re happy to see the subs go.
At issue are the Royal Navy’s four Vanguard-class ballistic missile nuclear submarines (SSBN) and their payloads stationed at Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde, tucked into a narrow bay in Scotland’s Southwest.
For more than 40 years, the Royal Navy has used Scotland to homeport its nuclear deterrent fleet and nuclear attack submarines (SSNs).

Being from Scotland, I hope not. Currency, military, NATO, the EU. That's enough for me.

Being this plebian... watching tabloid tier news.
Cmon now.
This is different, it's actually branching into true ethnic brits. Places like Texas, Venice, Cascadia, Catalonia, etc. are watching this event in hopes of a cascade effect. The commonwealth still exists btw.Last edited by PaulG; 09-17-2014 at 09:28 PM.

LOL! Most of those sh!tholes would be better off if the British still ran them. In many countries, the British would bring railroads, roads, decent law courts, schools, telegraphs, and put an end to barbaric practices. (One ruler in Asia drank a potion made of 6000 human hearts, for ex. He and his family were 'removed' at once. LOL!)
“From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother...”

Scotland don't need army. I think that is one of the reasons people are so for Yes is the stupid wars that the English bring the Scots into. Ireland is free and happier a Independent Scotland would be happier free from being given pocket money by the English. We will see if the NO scare tactics work or not. I hope people vote Yes.

Scotland just went from "married" to "it's complicated". Awkward. #ScotlandDecides
Its several hours old, but:
Scottish referendum, exit polls at 11.00: 53% for staying in UK, 47% for independence

Like the rest of Europe, pretty much.
I voted, "No" (I think?), although in my heart I wish they would. I could see some positive benefits for both the UK and Scotland were that to happen.
The Scots love them some Socialism and vote for that overwhelmingly. With them not around, the UK might get some reasonable people elected who could make some necessary reforms. Meanwhile, Scotland would initially **** things to high hell and hit rock bottom very quickly with their big Socialism ideas (and without anyone to leech from to have it even come close to work). They'd bottom out and then maybe they'd smarten up and make some economic reforms of their own and prosper. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Damned if it's Yes, Damned if it's no
Yes: Lots of promises, not all unrealistic, overly positive, little planning done to show what things could be like in the future
No: Nothing good will come of Yes, Campaign overly negative, Stay and we'll give you a lucky dip of powers IF the backbenchers agree
Me: Yes:
If the companies leave Scotland, an independent Scotland can lower tax rates to attract more therby creating more jobs and stimulating the fledgeling economy
Things are going to be slightly worse for a few years but will improve
We get complete control over our country - imagine that, people who have actually been to Scotland controlling it
Alex Salmond is done after a Yes vote, David Cameron is done after a Yes or No Vote
If its a close no maybe there will be complete reform of British politics
Oil is a small but not insignificant amount of revenue, dog groomers, match sellers, corner shops, plumbers, banks will pay in total far more than oil.
So aye, damned either way but at least with Yes we might just get out of it
