On my Instagram and ********, I see so many girls always bragging that they squat. I'm thinking "Ok...what's the big deal? I squat too, anyone can squat." Now if they were bragging about a PR or weight or a transformation within their body I can see how that'd be different. But all day these girls change their usernames to isquat, squatforbooty, carsandsquats, etc. or post pics of their butt saying "I grab my butt because well I squat!!" when there's not even anything to brag about.
Maybe this pet peeve is just me? LOL

Is anyone else annoyed at girls bragging they squat?

No, I get what you're saying. I hate it when people brag about simply PARTICIPATING in an activity rather than actually taking it seriously. Like, if you go for a mile jog every other day and you constantly post calling yourself a runner, I'm gonna be like 'um.' If you wear a pair of fricking headphones to a mile race.... I'm going to get pissed off.
I guess the other thing you may be finding irksome here is the implication that they only squat for aesthetics, or as an excuse to show off their butts or look cute. Which, well, it's their prerogative but it is slightly dishonest."The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

Ever since social media has became big everyone has felt the need to announce everything they do, and 95% of the followers don't give a ****. Obviously that friend of yours is trying to grab attention/likes/comments from her guy friends.
My aunt is that way, always announcing everything she does. She is at the spa, She is at the park, She's getting her nails done, She is at etc etc etc, I simply unfollow her feed for I won't have to read when she's going to take crap.
Unrelated to the gym and your topic, but I think what's more bothersome to me, and maybe it's due to my own insecurities, is when someone has uploaded about 50 pictures on a single event. So you're telling me you spent your whole time taking pictures? I don't understand that, maybe I'm too much of a guy - I would not want to be a part of an event where you have to pose 50 freaking times, and unfortunately I have been on those events and I am the one that usually says ANOTHER PICTURE??
If I ever date a girl that is like that, I would ask her to leave the phone in the car..

It's because having a "squat booty" is all the rage now, so everyone thinks doing 100's of bodyweight squats is going to help build a squat booty. Big freaking deal. Almost everyone is physically capable of squatting. Even toddlers will naturally squat down to pick something up. It's a natural movement learned pretty freaking early in life and nothing to brag about. That's like saying I chit today.
I don't use IG or ******** for those reasons. I deactivated my FB account about a year ago and the world is still turning. I swear some people post things just to say "LOOK I'M STILL BREATHING! LOOK AT MEEEEE"

I personally hate squatting so I'd never brag about it. (Used to love/hate it in high school when I could squat 250#...now I struggle with 1xBW)
I'd much rather do hack squats, glute bridges, etc for my bum...but no one brags about a glute bridge.Last edited by megdaig; 09-17-2014 at 11:36 AM.

You know what - those posts have always bothered me too, but I could never really articulate why. I think it has to do with what you mentioned here. They spent the entire time taking photos of the event instead of enjoying it and now they are...what...bragging that they essentially wasted their time at the event?

Don't even get me started on cardio kickboxing. Granted don't get be wrong, it is an excellent aerobic exercise, but I find it entertaining how some girls will take those classes and brag about it as if they are now tough, bad ass*s when they are only punching/kicking air with horrendous technique and haven't learned anything on how to defend a punch/kick.
I think that is why I prefer Grappling/BJJ. There is no such thing as cardio Grappling/BJJ. If a girl says she is Grappling/BJJ...she is actually doing grappling/BJJ. Skill level may vary, but she is still there...sweating her butt off, getting bruised up and mat burn, getting sore joints/throat from submissions and of course getting sweat on by others. Probably a big reason why many girls don't stick around for too long.
I can't blame you for getting annoyed about it and feel free to rant about it. But unfortunately not much one can do other than ignore.Workout Log / Chat thread...Embrace the Dragon: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=169711903

Glad I'm not the only one! LOL
Oh, and people think squats will give them huge booties like Serena Wililams or something. I hope they're not having unrealistic expectations because I know squats can make it a bit bigger, rounder, and nicer but it's not going to give your ass its own zip code! LOL Well maybe for few it can.

The problem with putting "cardio" before anything is that the class is only exercise, not training. Cardio classes are about cardio, not technique/form. People make the mistake of thinking that if they are "exercising" then that = training, which it doesnt.
Its the same with cardio barre classes. There is no time to focus on technique, even though true ballet is ALL about the technique. I did 2 years of ballet before being certified in barre, and they even tell you in the trainings, that you cant focus on form because you dont have enough time. Its not a ballet class its cadio. So basically as with kickboxing, it "rips off" from the real training aspect an turns it into mush so people can feel the burn.
So yeah i find it annoying when people say they train in something, when they dont, they just exercise.
But... im also a person who will take 500 pictures at an event, not posed though. But i like pictures and i take a lot of pictures of my kids. I dont do IG but for FB that is how we keep up with family and friends who we cant be near.www.bikinisandbiceps.com

I feel a bit bitchy in saying this, but it does irritate me a bit when someone has never mentioned a thing about fitness and then they get the lifting bug and all of a sudden they are updating 10 times a day checking in at the gym, posting selfies in workout clothes, pics of their chicken breasts and broccoli with phrases like 'gainz baby'! lol okay...we get it...you finally picked up a barbell!
I understand that it probably helps with motivation for them, but come on! Overkill! Okay...bitchrantoverLast edited by Lunu; 09-17-2014 at 02:33 PM.

I can do them by loading a regular bar up inside the squat rack but on the ground, and then placing my feet under the bar. Dont know if taller people can do it, but its the closest thing I got.
Actually been thinking of if i should add the machine into my space. Cant decide what to go after next.www.bikinisandbiceps.com

I can't do them either, but before I broke my femur a trainer had me doing them with aid from a resistance band on the lower-down portion, so even if you can't fully lower yourself in a controlled fashion, banded might be a progression to try. Or maybe I'm just ludicrously weak in the hamstrings and you don't need the band.

I've used to take a cardio kickboxing class with my roommate. I'm so uncoordinated that I always had the order of the punches confused, and I spent most the time just punching in random directions while trying to keep my feet moving...
I did sweat quite a bit, but most of the time I was just confused.
