15,000 to invest.
I am thinking putting 10,000 in VTI (Vanguard Total Stock Market Index), 5,000 in BND (Vanguard Total Bond Market) and investing an extra 200 a month into whichever one is performing better.
I am not an active investor, nor am I really knowledgeable about this stuff. Would this be a good idea?

Mostly because of trading PCLN options.

For those who don't know what large trader reporting rule is.

no you should have listened to them they were right, youre problem is you anticipated the wrong reaction to the bad economy. to simplify: when zero hedge shows you how bad things are, expect more easy money from the fed which is asset price friendly. thats your mistake, zerohedge is just reporting reality you are the one making the mistake by not anticpating what the monetary policy response will be bad economy means easy fed which means higher stocks.

btw I love how you guys are predicting dow 35k and another 5 years in the bull market lol...talk about bubble hysteria. that would set a new all time record for a bull market, eclipsing the longest ever bull market by years and percentage gains you are dreaming unless of course the usd becomes toilet paper weimar republic style.
where is the earnings growth gonna come from? they are already stretched to the extreme for the big recovery that never came. we will be lucky to have 2% growth for all of 2014, just like every other year for the past 5 years after doubling the national debt and printing 4.5t dollars and ZIRP

What if Dow 35k comes by 2016? lmao, what a top that would be. I can see it happening if as soon as SPY 212 breaks and it goes week after week of gains. Couple that with oil rebounding to $100+ by the summer and we've got the perfect combo.

kinda off topic but anyone know the best tax filing software that imports gain/loss info from investments? I don't daytrade or anything, just want something that'll pull in my equity trading gain/loss info from Fidelity so I don't have to do it manually.
Did it with TurboTax last year and ended up paying $90 for federal and state, which seemed high. Not sure if that's just normal pricing.

Electonics
Yes you should have but it's always easy to see mistakes after they are made. Learn from them, that's the important part.
Yes you can but just buy SPY or a derivative of SPX. I'm holding a bit of SSO still. Got in at 126.75 but I'm not counting it in my gains in my sig.
I'm not dumb enough to predict any DOW number but I will say this ... just because it hasn't happened yet historically doesn't mean that it won't happen in the future. For every record level event in history it had to exceed a previous record. We would be ignorant to think that no new records will be set within the stock market.Last edited by Barn01; 02-17-2015 at 07:22 AM.

gold and silver have crashed through support...fast move to the downside and could be heading to new lows in the short term the rally has failed. ( I didnt buy any more stock this time around incase the rally failed)
the one thing the market hasnt had is final capitulation, we came close in november but that wasnt it. itll be interesting to see how well the stocks fare during this next decline

Hey all, long time. Been super buy with a ton of other things got some real estate questions. But first an update on my stocks.
Im currently Long on 2 stocks
CLF- CB $7.10
TMV - CB $26.05
After my huge gain in JCP I was ver skiddish to get back in but finally saw some things I was interested in doing. CLF has yet to break even the 2+ weeks I've held it but I am thinking I will start looking for an exit around +/- 10%
Real estate
So I have an active contract on a house! Ill spare the details but asking your opinions. The orig asking was 179k I got him down to 168k + 3.5K towards closing costs. I just had the inspection and all yesterday (electrical issues, minor termites and other small issues). We are going to ask him to remedy these issues before we close or we walk. The beauty of it is that if a licensed inspector notates something in Flo he hast to disclose it to all future prospective buyers.
So assuming all the inspection issues are taken care of I am left with a quandary, my dad keeps telling me ot put as little as possible down, meanwhile im of the school of thought that this is my one opportunity to manipulate my mortgage, Im considering putting a larger down payment down to try to keep my monthly house payment (taking into account hoa and taxes will adjust (before utilities) under $1,000. So I can either use the extra money to put it down on the house or buy down the Interest rate. I know many will say (I'm thinking Barn especially) that I can take that extra money and invest it elsewhere and make it go further, Im not super confident in my investing savvy right now lol.
What do you all think, also anyone know if some of the closing costs are ever negotiable like they want a year and 2 months of insurance at close I have seen other banks only require 6 months. Is that a negotiable thing?

Keep an eye on the tonnage in physical. Positive divergence there is the most bullish signal. Price does not matter. As long as the tonnage is not experiencing liquidation, it is bullish. Under such condition, you want price to go down so you can buy more for the inevitable rebound. For the first time since the top, the last 3 weeks have witnessed accumulation in the physical. Will have to see if that holds. If it does, then it is confirmed

Is this a rental or for you to live in?
So what you're saying is that you have a conditional offer that has been accepted?
There are a couple ways to look at how to go about financing. First you would have to establish what are you finance options. down payments vs interest rates vs closing costs vs costs of living vs cost of ownership. ... blah blah. There is no one size fits all. If you had a large bank roll to play with then just take the cheapest interest rate and invest the rest in quality dividend stocks that hold a current higher yield than your mortgage. Even if the markets go down, you should be able to get a higher yield over time through div increases (remember I said a quality div stock).
However if you are only able to secure a really really low long term rate with a large % down then the risk trade off might not be worth it. Plus if you're buying into a really hot market then I would secure a really low mortgage rate and wait a year or so for the home value to appreciate. Then get yourself a HELCO and max out @ 80% LTV, invest that in whatever you want and renew your HELCO every couple years to have it increased. With rates this low it makes more sense to invest your HE then sleep with it under your pillow ... literally.
Remember think about all your options as to where money can come from and the level of risk you are willing to take if you face the worst case scenario. Because I don't spend any of my investment money I could technically lose everything and no notice any change in quality of life.
Closing costs ... well you can negotiate your lawyers fees but you better do that before you assign a lawyer to your file. Also almost all laywers will have a clause in place incase things go beyond the norm.My $0.02 is worth $0.03

So this morning I wake up to an email about Warren Buffets Fear about self driving cars from Investopedia.com, published by the motley fool.. What in the actual ****? So they have millions of subscribers and and flash out all this hype on self driving cars, for what? Seems mega-fishy to me..
They are promoting into buying into silicon valley stocks for these revolutionary self driving cars.. way to much hype.
