Aussies are getting it right. 4 weight classes, same rules, 1 winner a class. Simple and relatable.

No wishy washy Ben Rice philosophy about 'being a better person and pushing yourself for your own satisfaction. It was intense, the competition of fierce, and fuk me was it nice to actually be in a sport where people are trying to win.

The battles in some of the classes was just mental and literally came down to deadlifts.

u70kg girls had a girl pulling 197.5 to edge out a competitor who pulled 200 for the win.
u80kg men, one of my lifters pulled 297.5 (27.5kg pb) after some very cheeky deadlift attempt changes and jostling to cinch the win.
u95kg men had martin from here taking out the win with an 820kg total after coming from big deficit subtotal to win and then take 335 from Matt Stenzel who also posts on here.
u110 saw 4 men total between 855-892.5. I came 4th after pulling 360kg and was tied on total but 4th because of bodyweight. I went from 360 and attempted 397.5 to take the win after the 2 other guys battled it out with 340/222.5/325 and 350/205/335.
110+ saw Odell Manuel with a 1030kg raw total, a 400kg squat, and he just missed 405kg dead because of his hand, would have given him 1045.

This is powerlifting. A sport where people compete and push each other. And it was awesome to be a part of it.

Sounds like a great competition, congrats on your finish. I gotta agree, a competition with fewer weight classes and...actual competition...sounds much better than the usual 13+ weight classes and 18 age divisions so everyone wins and is a special snowflake.

A few are, Nathan Jones (110 winner) and Odell Manual are but the majority are aligned with the PTC gym and the GPC Australia federation. Politics are a bitch sometimes.

I was ****-scared when Matt Stenzel passed out after his deadlift. But it was fun to watch theese battles on live-stream.

    Amen.

The format works well. I would like to see it become an even smaller/exlusive type competition and hopefully get some internationals.

But hell, I squatted 325kg and had 3 other guys squat 340 345 and 350, and the 345 got a harsh depth call on 365.

It's just insane and winning really means something.

I 100% agree with your sentiments. Im not really competitive yet but I still show up and try to be closest to the top as I can. How are the 4 weight classes broken up?

Easy for the crows to understand; lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight, SHW.

ie, people don't really give a **** about the difference between 148 and 165. It's just shredded little dwarves.
