Hey guys, sorry it's one of them cut or bulk threads again... :P
Anyway I need some help on deciding whether to cut or bulk....I know that I still need to lose some more weight but just when I decide to do another cut cycle I start seeing myself small and fear that i will look emaciated and smaller if I lose more weight....LOL
Any Ideas ? Also can you give me a BF estimate ?? Im 5'8 and 144lbs
Thanks

Closer to 15% actually. Lack of muscle definition in this case is due to lack of muscle more than excessive fat (while there is some). I'd definitely say bulk. Build a foundation to cut down too. I don't recommend bulking beyond 20% (personally I wouldn't bulk beyond 15%bf but you don't have much foundation) as you start losing the ability to see mass gains and it means you'll have to cut for an extended period of time. Plus it's not really healthy to have more fat on you than that.
So approx. 15% bf, I say bulk."When a problem comes along, you must whip it." ~Simon Belmont

Hi,
Against the run of play here,
I would personally say cut.
Reason for this is because you have around 15% BF right now, bulking will put more body fat on thus taking longer to cut ( the hard part ).
If we look at this logically the less time you have to spend on a cut the better, cuts can be psychologically draining and it's where most people will fail.
Not only this but if you check my pictures out, I went from being skinny at 11% BF and worrying that a cut will make me appear skinnier and malnourished as I like to put it, into 8% BF I kept the same size arms, chest, shoulders and legs( with small gains) but they appeared bigger due to the presence of muscle and veins.
If you cut now and stick to it down to 8-9% BF, you'll be a lot happier with yourself later on, especially on a progressional steady clean bulk.
Bulking after stripping yourself down to a place which you're happy starting a bulk is a psycological relief too, food increases, you feel more energetic and you have a new found love for gaining muscle!
Check my pictures out and see what you think.
This is my story and my opinion. I hope whatever you choose works out well for you man!
Good luck

Dude I saw your pictures post cut, you're RIPPED ! Great Job !
But I don't think I would achieve a physique like yours if I keep cutting, I tried getting down to 136lbs and ended up looking emaciated (picture in the attachement) and just stopped the cut and to got my calories back up to maintenance (gained 8lbs in the process due to the metabolic slowdown caused by the low calorie diet I was following...) now two months later I started wondering if I made the right call by not cutting anymore or not...And I would like to point out that i'm also SCARED of gaining weight (used to be FAT 216lbs before my major weight loss the last couple years) and still have not made my peace with the last 8lbs I gained lol.
So now I'm stuck in the whole bulk or cut dilemma..SCARED of both...

I'd still say bulk. He mentioned the psychological toll cutting takes (though you've done it so it's not like you can't), I feel the cut would be much harder as you are now without much muscular foundation to help and it'll be even more daunting the thinner you get. Take it really slow with the bulk, aim for maybe 0.5lbs weight gain per week, or around 250kcal over maintenance daily. It's going to take a while before you see any noticeable mass gains anyway. Give it a few months and if nothing else you'll give your body a chance to catch up from a nutritional standpoint (no food-deprivation) and gain some strength in the process. You can always post progress pics to ask if maybe you're putting on the fat too quickly and if worse comes to worst, you can always just start cutting again if you're upset with the amount of fat. Honestly though, a slow 6+ month bulk would probably make you feel best and then cutting down after that won't look so "emaciated." lol Still technically a preference since you're in a "healthy" body fat zone, considering. Just remember it's going to take a lot of time and work; and above all, consistency.
