Be careful if you ever decide to build a home gym. The conversation went something like this:
Me "Did my bar come yet?"
Wife "That giant cardboard tube on the porch?"
Me "That is probably it."
Wife "Yeah, I tried to move it. It's still on the porch."
The Buddy Capps Texas Power Bar arrived today. Squatting tomorrow.

I'm a fan of the TPB. I don't own one (I have an 80s York bar I use personally) but have squatted at my buddies house who has one for about a year. Great bar and yes it can be painful
I'm waiting to pick one up until I grab a rack (in the process of deciding ATM) but it's on my radar.☻/

True stories all above.
Really you need a bar and some weight. I saved for awhile to get the rack first.
I play games with my wife. It keeps everyone happy. I have a side account that is attached to my paypal where like 1% of my pay goes plus any extra stuff. She doesn't *really* know how much everything costs and doesn't bother to look. I totaled mine up recently and with the 3 bars pictured, 800lbs of Olympic weight, weight vest, chains, couple kettle bells and other miscellanea I am just at $2000 over more than a year. I was doing crossfit at $150/mo so that helped in getting the questionable accounting through but in the long run we are saving money.▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #68 ▪██─────██▪

I've spent maybe $3,000 and I bought some expensive stuff. You could definitely be out the door for much less.
Got a power rack new for about $2,000, that was the pricey part... 300lb weight set for about $450, then craigslist bench for $200, and more craigslist weight for $250. Plenty to work with for a loooong time.Don't listen to me, I'm in terrible shape.

My plates aren't quite as nice as my bars.
Shown is 715lbs, out of frame is another 120lbs (35lbs plates and 25lbs bumpers) and 60lbs of standard weight. I paid $1/lb for 300lbs of Ivanko, nearly $2 for the bumpers and averaged ~$0.50/lbs for the rest.▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #68 ▪██─────██▪

Finding used gear in Europe is a little more tricky than the states. I get killed by the fact that the exchange rate is utter crap and that most weight equipment is imported from the states. 30% more premuim between vat tax and importing cost. Plus my wife just told me the Germans have a tax on he gyms. Got to love socialism, not.

Yeah, nothing better than a long deployment to make you love America all the more.
It would be pretty hard in Stuttgart anyway, even if you could afford it. At least if I recall correctly...I mean Kelly Barracks was just an apartment.
And then there's the overage you'd have to worry about when you rotate. Ugh."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1
Also, taxation is theft.

Hah - and all the weight equipment in the States is imported from China.
There is Crossfit in Germany now, I went to boxes in Regensburg and Munster. I noticed the Regensburg one was mostly outfitted in Again Faster stuff (which I heard referred to as the Walmart of Crossfit as if all weights are made for Crossfit) and the Munster one in Rogue. Rogue has a European disty now so i would check them out and if there is a German craigslist Crossfitters fall out of the sport very often and need to unload their stuff.
A bar and plates. A cage is ideal, squat stands will do but you can do a lot with just a bar and plates. Dead lift, floor press, power clean - if you can get it up and down safely even squats.
Home gyms are not always easy. We don't have the space or the time so we make the space and time.▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #68 ▪██─────██▪

I'm actually a DOD civilian working out of patch, retired oct 2013. Why I live in Germany is that I have a German wife who isn't ready to leave yet and we just built a house in Schonaich. So I am here for quite a bit longer, don't hate it but prefer the USA. But getting weight lifting equipment through APO is a no go.

Hence why 2/3's of my bars and 100% of my racks are made in the USA of materials sourced in the USA. I don't like that I have some Chinese made stuff but in this global economy it felt inevitable. I have all US made baby seats but do you have any idea how hard it is to find an effing stroller not made in China?
We heavily favor Michigan made products followed by Great Lakes Region and then the rest of the USA. I vote with my wallet and buy things made here. Anyway, rant over.▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #68 ▪██─────██▪
