File down your calluses so they don't get too big and tear.
Get lifting straps for the weights that are too heavy for your grip.
I have a big palm and short fingers and carpal tunnel, pair that with the dumbbells above 55 in my gym have a larger diameter grip so it makes holding them real difficult and my fingers give out. But months ago they gave out on 55 pounds now they give out on 90 and above and i use lifting straps on those.Max weight I've lifted In 2017. Trying to figure out how to cut, thinking of walking on stage next year.

Enjoyable thread, metamorphed into If you can shrug over 500lbs...gtfih. Lol
I lift with gloves.love cheep ones too. I get calluses through them!
Side story, put down a new floor last year in daughter's bedroom. Wood. Ripped up old carpet first. Had to remove all the old padding staples,, like a hundred or so. Used a big plyers, pulling and twisting them out. Forgot to put on gloves, get bout halfway and feel like a breeze on my hand. Look down to see All my calluses ripped off and dangling, like my palm melted.lolTony

I don't think the op has the issue with gloves being shredded or a blown bicep. For the love of humanity he works out at planet fitness. Weight is not the issue. Have a bunch of advanced lifters, arguing about gloves, when it took you guys 5+ years to get there. If op gets to that level, I am sure he will have it figured out.

That is my point. As a relative newb, my advice was to just let his hand toughen up a little. Just keep his hands dry with a towel and use a little chalk if his gym allows. It will happen pretty quick.
YMMV, but I see wearing gloves a little silly (Unless you are a hand model maybe). I personally hate the feeling of anything between my hands and what I am lifting. The heavier the weight, the more this becomes true.RAW lifts

I wore gloves the first year or so that I lifted, and I still had callouses. I stopped using them, and got more callouses. Since I started competing in powerlifting, I would never train in them again because I can't use them in competition.
And I'm so ashamed of my manly callouses that I no longer shake hands with people, I just grab them and kiss them full on the mouth.
Not srs.

Mate wear the gloves if you want, do you actually give a rat's ass what anyone thinks? Chalk I found to be better, but that's me. Or use a solution of Condie's crystals on your hands, it'll harden them up a treat (potassium permanganate if you want to be technical, 1 teaspoon in a gallon of water, 2-3 times a week. get it at your chemist.)
Cheers from MickStop talking and have a go

If you want to wear gloves, then wear gloves. Whatever makes lifting easier for you or gives you a better grip.
I sometimes wear gloves for some exercises or if my hands are feeling sweaty. Don't worry what other people think about using gloves. You are in the gym for yourself, not for others. The only dumbass in the gym is that who does not mind his own business and have a negative opinion if someone simply wants to use gloves whether or not they think they are good or bad or the current gym fashion style.
If you think someone views you as a dumbass because you want to wear gloves, then watch him. Most likely, he will be the dumbass who does not put his weights away or doesn't wipe his nasty sweat off the equipment.
If you want to get to the point of not using gloves, then gradually use gloves less and less where you get more comfortable not using them and then slowly develop a callus on your hands.

Generally, I always train without gloves, but I have used them on and off lately as my hands have been getting sore from a lot of mechanic work and welding.
I can't say I'd think any less of someone who wears them, I've joked with people before, but ultimately, do what makes you happy and feels right.
I was always opposed to lifting straps too, as i felt you'd develop better grip without them, but I have recently begun using a strap on my left hand to help me
through a bout of "golfers elbow" from deadlifts and curls...it helps with seated rows and pulldowns too."Common sense is not so common".
