When a trainer fails to show...?

My fym/trainer charges the clients when the clients fail to show for their session. My trainer has no-showed twice now. I seem to be left without any recourse, other than an, "I'm sorry." The second time, he tried to have another trainer who I've never met do the session instead, about 15 minutes after I'd started it on my own. Kinda ticked.

Is this standard??

No. If your dentist turned up late to an appointment with the same reponse, you'd be pissed off. You're entitled to do the same in this instance. An incredibly unprofessional trait to have is a lack of punctuality, and if the individual can't manage something as simple as that, I'd get rid... pronto...

In 15 years I have never no showed on a client. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I have been late for a session and not called.

The least he can do is give you a free session for what he did, the least the gym can do is give you a new trainer. I'd fire him immediately, he sounds like an irresponsible idiot who probably puts as much thought into your workouts as he does into showing up for work.

If you bought the sessions through a gym, he likely has a manager. Speak to him and tell him what happened, you want credit for two sessions and a new trainer (of your choice) otherwise you want your money back. If you bought the sessions through him tell him to refund your money and you'll find a new trainer. Pretty simple.

Always read your contracts carefully. At commercial gyms, the policy is usually that if a trainer is late, you are entitled to your next session free. That's only fair if you don't show up to your session and get charged.

With this trainer, fire him and get a new one. One time, shame on him. Two times, shame on you.

If I ever get my wires crossed on my scheduler, I always offer the client an additional free session. This is something that happens very rarely. It's your call but it sounds like this may not be someone you want to continue working with. Or if you really like him, just tell him if it happens again you will terminate your contract.

What's been said already basically.. I'd get rid of him now. Especially if he does indeed charge you for not showing up. If he works for the gym and not just works out of it then it's probably worth putting in a complaint to the gym manager too so that hopefully other people don't get the same treatment you have from him.
