I have nothing but respect for people who are actually at the gym, because the majority of people even with gym memberships do not go to the gym at all.
Also I was one of those people writing things down when I started. I would take notes on form too."Throughout the whole of life one must continue to learn to live, and what will amaze you even more, throughout life one must learn to die." -Seneca

So basically you have a problem with weak people that basically just need to go to the gym lift heavy and eat as much as possible. If that is the case I agree. But for someone who has been at it for a while it is important to track progress (I use my head) and count calories on cut precisely.

I think writing down your workouts/progress is great, especially for newer lifters. I don't know why you would knock a person for that. He is obviously trying to take getting bigger/fitness serious. Staying home from an outing is pretty gay imo, BUT if he doesn't want to drink? Nothing wrong with that. I used to go out and DD for my friends when I was cutting for fights.

You what I find really ****gy?
When guys get out their notebook and track all the things everyone around them in the gym are doing "wrong by their perception" and then go on an internet forum and rewrite it and seek validation.
OP, don't waste your life worrying about others… you may find the majority of what you believe, is cringeworthy/laughable at best and you only critique people because YOUR life is actually a complete joke.
Have a nice day

Well, I 'track my lifts' in the sense that I'll write down a goal at home to achieve next session, but I don't record how I felt after each rep in my diary.
I just finished my first year, and I also decided to end my first cut (I was seeing lower ab veins etc, I just don't feel the need to go that low with insufficient mass). I have never counted calories or macros (probably a mistake but I didn't really know) and after this week (doing a big refeed) I'm gonna start counting and do a controlled slow bulk of about 100 cal surplus I am thinking. I have been gaining strength on my cut, but I am really ready to add some heavy weight!
I wouldn't say it's bad to track these things, but honestly I kinda laugh at the dudes with notebooks IN the gym as well.
Not because of their obsession (bodybuilding is BASED of obsession) but because of their apparent ch***y memories. If I go into the gym for back/bi day, I could tell you exactly how much weight and how many reps I did on any given machine. I don't see what's so difficult to just write it down at home. Will they forget on the drive home?? Lol.
