i like metal but i have to be in the right mood for it. can't just sit down at my desk and put it on.
i can listen to trance to relax, get pumped, pretty much everything. metal makes me feel aggressivemwc

It's a complex form of music that a lot of people can't relate to... People generally like what "sounds good" and when they hear screaming it turns them away. For people who can listen to it from a more musical perspective, they can understand all the technicalities that go into it.

because it's not comfortable "feel good" music.
One of the gyms I used to go to allowed people to play their own music. One time I plugged my mp3 player in with a hardcore/metal playlist to get some of dat dere adrenaline pumping, nomsayin', and there was only one other guy (skinny curl bro) lifting at gym and I thought he wouldn't mind.
Anyway, he approached me and asked me if we could listen to something which is "more fun". "sure" I said, and he put on David Guetta/Pink/Lady Gaga

most of my friends are strictly into metal whereas i am into edm. i hear this a lot from them, that the music is really complex and they always rag on people that like music that is electronically generated or "sampled." who gives a fuk? yeah i have a lot of respect for people that can play instruments but just because something is complex doesn't mean i should enjoy it more. i'm sure some classical music with an orchestra of 100 musicians is tough to produce, but does that mean it is more enjoyable to listen to than the fukin spice girls. honestly, whatever makes you feel good is good. imo

Agreed. I think that for people to really enjoy metal they have to have a certain understanding of music because for the most part it's not "easy listening". If I didn't play guitar since I was 12 I guarantee I wouldn't appreciate metal the way I do now. I might not even listen to it tbh who knows?
And I actually do like classical music for that reason exactly. That stuff is incredible. But I also have some terrible chit on my ipod that I love to listen to brb Goo Goo Dolls, Nsync, Nicki Minaj, Chief Keef780/425/805

Perfectly summed up.
Metal was actually metal before Nirvana, now any modern band with even the slightest semblance of a "metal" sound is some angst-ridden teen rebellion type bullsh!t, except for quality bands like Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, Lamb of God etc.
Grunge and alternative rock opened up the doors to *******s like Linkin Park, Evanescence, Limp Bizkit and other such monstrosities, which then replaced real metal.
Before Nirvana and the "I hate my parents" wave, the scene was dominated by the likes of Pantera, Sepultura, Slayer, Machine Head and Metallica (before they became sh!t) and the list goes on... THAT was quality metal.

Metallica and Motley Crue selling out arenas worldwide can hardly be considered a revival of the old metal scene. They're just doing it because they need to maintain their lavish lifestyles somehow. If any of you have been to one of these types of concerts recently, you'll know what I mean. 60 year-old burnt out carcasses prancing around on stage, making sure not to party too hard or their artificial hip might pop out of place.
As for the likes of Slipknot... nikka please. If that's what the metal scene is now, count me out.
Also, Rammstein isn't a "newer name" lol, they've been around since '94ITALIAN CREW

I, for one, am thankful that metal isn't in the mainstream. Keeps all the chitty bands who just want to do it for the money out. Makes it more focused on the actual music rather than selling out stadiums.
Some of the best metal is still being released these days but no one knows about it.** Play death metal on the bus so people don't sit beside me Crew **
** Go in front of people flexing in the mirror at the gym and pretend I'm a solar eclipse Crew **
** All gym counter girls have learned not to say hi to me Crew **
** Consistently denied a spot Crew **
** Cries during workout Crew **
