He's a competitive person, there's a reason they call him 'Killashaw' at TAM, every time they spar it's a fight as far as he's concerned. He takes it hard when he loses or feels like he was being bested. I don't know if it was a "plan" to hold Soto to the fifth or anything along those lines, but hell maybe he's trying to soften the blow to his ego as far as him taking five rounds to best a guy who he sees beneath him. I don't know TJ personally, but the dude's a pro fighter, he's a champion, and he beat a guy touted as #1 p4p best in his previous fight.
I'd imagine he has an ego and believes he's the best.

Aldo said it long before barao did, that barao started to believe everything DFW and the ufc said about him - he's P4P best in the world and started to believe he was unbeatable so I dont think he took TJ seriously.
Someone that goes that long being unbeaten taking out most of the best in the world with ease just doesn't get schooled overnight by a dude that just found his game in a year. Not at his age.
Its crazy that people don't see this, or they're listening way too much of the ufc hype train. Barao had a mental lapse and drank his own kool-aid, its as simple as that. I think Barao would have made him pay this time around."I would fight anyone of the UFC LW's, but the problem is that I will never put my foot in the octagon after they (UFC) tried to be funny, I would rather have bleeding hemorrhoids than fight for the UFC. I would rather have one true Japanese MMA supporter than one million fake mainstream supporters that will turn their back on you as soon as you lose a fight. - Joachim Hansen

“There’s a long list for Rousey waiting right now, so we’ll see what happens,” UFC President Dana White said after the event on Saturday at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. “She’s on the list. It’s a short list.”{Misc Fisherman Crew}
