    First time deadlift...

Sunday was my first deadlift session ever. I finally joined a real gym where you can do them (aka not planet fitness). Im really sore in my mid to lower back which I read was normal BUT my triceps and forearms are just as sore... I tried watching my form as much as possible. Is this normal for first time or am I doing something seriously wrong? Thanks...

Is probably ok. Deadlift hits everything.

But it couldn't hurt to post a video.

Video would help as everyone else said, but to add: forearm soreness isn't uncommon since the deadlift works the grip muscles in your forearm. Triceps soreness sounds strange to me. I could maybe see it happening if you were starting the pull with bent elbows and trying to jerk the weight off the floor. That would suddenly extend the arm under a heavy load.

Maybe something else was the underlying cause?

Tricep soreness might actually come from the opposite: flexing the triceps to keep the arms straight From lifting with bent arms you would put stress on the biceps.

Anyway, post a vid of your form, op

Unlikely that op would know to do that in his first attempt at deadlifting.

I also get minor tricep soreness from pulling. I don't really intentionally flex them and i don't jerk the bar, so i have no idea why it happens.

I also get hamstring soreness from front squats, even though all the experts say that hamstrings are not recruited in the front squat.

Who knows. I don't worry about these kinds of things anymore. As long as lifts get stronger and no injuries, the details of biomechanics aren't worth losing sleep over.
