Usually these things upset me, but she was with him for 30 years and he broke up with her.
Although it's an unbelievable amount of money, i doubt it was her intention when she got married to take half his assets. This is one of the cases where I don't think a wife is a gold digger.*San Diego Chargers Crew*

Yes he will be fine but that shouldn't be factored in.
For the average family, this 50/50 idea can wreck the main income provider and does regularly unfortunately.
She is definitely entitled to something and enough to have a comfortable lifestyle. I feel that half of the money further enforces what is happening to the average income families.
Arguments in this thread have ranged from taking care of children to loss of potential earnings from her own career. That is definitely why she should be compensated but also during that time, it was Mel's money that probably paid for those children's clothing, food, nannies, medical expenses, education, etc.
Based on that, money should be given for her time and effort, but not 50/50 as that would imply she put an equivalent amount of money towards the household and family.

Keep in mind, many times in the average household family, the main income provider ALSO takes care of the children, is woken up in the middle of the night by crying, cooks food etc. Yet they still have to give half of the income. It would be unrealistic to assume that one person made the money and the other person took care of the family EXCLUSIVELY.
That shows a major flaw in the system honestly.

Lol at Yiam! Reese's and deuces
Anyhoo, people are always going on about how raising children is the most valuable job in the world, and yet when that job is inadvertently given equal value to another profession, in this case, acting, people are up in arms.
What message do we want to send to people about our priorities as a society? Is childrearing an important role just as necessary to the good of a society as any other role, or is it trivial in comparison to other professions? Answer carefully because if it is trivial, then **** being a good parent, **** actually raising kids and doing right by your offspring. This is very tricky. Your answer will reveal what you think is more valuable to a good society. In this case an actor or someone who cares for the home.
Personally, when taking into account the damage divorce does to offspring and broken families, I think any spouse male/female guilty of causing the damage to the family unit should be expected to pay half. It should send a clear message to people to take relationships and childrearing seriously or don't get in one at all.Mugawump (n.) So many white knight *******s ITT.
1) He should be forced to pay child support
2) He should not be forced to be pay for their college
3) He should not give her a single cent for her "housewife duties"
4) He should not have to give her half of anything
LOL at divorce laws. LOL at idiots who get married in this day and age. LOL at sloots thinking they are entitled to a man's earnings. LOL at the *******s here defending this bullchit."Wherever there's a ******* posting walls of text, I'll be there. Wherever there's a juicy post lost in a multi-page thread, I'll be there. not necessarily taking a side here (peppering my angus for negs), although i do think if it were the other way around and Mel Gibson was a stay at home dad and his wife was out there making bank and banging manwhores left and right, the misc would probably be saying 'serves the sloot right. sloots gonna sloot. sloot had it coming. that'll teach the sloot a lesson, etc etc.' despite the $850m
Edit: $425m
But I do want to clarify that I fully acknowledge the money from was hard-earned by Mel though he couldn't have raised the family without her

Name one thing you get out of marriage in 2014.
Loyalty? no
Security? no
Love? no
I don't understand how anyone intelligent would agree to it in todays Chris Brown Hoes Aint Loyal/Mel Gibson 400million dollar payout society we live in.
For the record if it was 1960 and I met someone great I would get married. But today = fk that trap.
